Georgia Power has begun construction of a 260 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Jefferson County, Georgia. The BESS is designed to supply stored energy over a four-hour period and is being built by Burns & McDonnell. The project has also received approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission and is expected to be completed in 2027.

In September 2025, Georgia Power announced its 2025 Request for Proposals (RFP) to procure 500 MW of energy storage system (ESS) capacity. The RFP was approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC), as part of the 2022 Integrated Resource Plan. Additionally, it seeks to bring the ESS projects online by 2031. The RFP will be managed by Ascend Analytics as an independent evaluator on behalf of Georgia Power.

In September 2025, Georgia Power received approval from PSC for five new utility-scale solar PPAs, with a cumulative capacity of 1,068 MW, under the Clean and Renewable Energy Subscription (CARES) 2023 programme. These projects, to be located across Georgia, will be developed and operated by third-party companies selected through the CARES 2023 RFP approved under the 2022 Integrated Resource Plan.
