Power PlantThe Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has approved the continuation of the Renewable Energy Research and Technology Development (RE-RTD) Programme for the 2026-27 to 2030-31 period with an outlay of Rs 4.37 billion. The programme aims to strengthen India’s renewable energy research ecosystem, accelerate indigenous technology development and support the commercialisation of advanced clean energy solutions.
The approved outlay includes Rs 2 billion for establishing a perovskite solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing pilot line and related research projects. Further, Rs 869.3 million has been earmarked to meet committed liabilities from the previous finance cycle. The remaining funds will support research and development, pilot demonstrations, testing facilities, incubation centres and policy research. Government research institutions, academic bodies and non-profit organisations will be eligible for up to 100 per cent financial assistance. Private companies and startups can receive up to 50 per cent, rising to 70 per cent for selected projects involving advanced technology development and emerging renewable energy technologies. The programme also introduces a funding mechanism for startups through government equity participation using compulsorily convertible preference shares. In addition, MNRE will launch the Mission for Advancement in High-impact Areas in Renewable Energy (MAHA-RE) in collaboration with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), with co-funding support of up to Rs 2 billion for renewable energy research and innovation.
