powerplantOman: OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) has reported significant progress on three renewable energy projects set to deliver a combined 330 MW of wind and solar power in Oman by the end of 2026. The developments include the Riyah 1 and Riyah 2 wind farms and the North Oman Solar plant, with a total investment exceeding $230 M. Once operational, the projects will supply electricity to the grid managed by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).
The Riyah wind projects are located at PDO’s Amin and West Nimr fields in southern Oman, while the North Oman Solar plant is being built at Saih Nahaydah in the north. The solar facility has reached approximately 95 % completion of tracker and photovoltaic module installation, with the remaining panels scheduled for mid-March 2026. Meanwhile, wind farm construction has advanced with seven turbines installed so far, each with a tip height of around 200 m. All 36 wind turbine generators have arrived in Oman, and turbine foundations are complete.
The projects have also exceeded local value targets, retaining around 30 % of total expenditure within Oman and creating roughly 150 direct and indirect jobs, with Omani nationals representing 40 % of the workforce. Local companies involved include Voltamp, Oman Cables, Al Kiyumi Switchgear, and Al Hassan Switchgear, while Worley Oman handled substation engineering and Khimji Ramdas managed logistics.
Kumail Said, acting CEO of OQAE, said the projects aim to expand clean energy generation, strengthen domestic industry, and support Oman’s economic diversification and energy transition goals.
