The US investment manager Ares Management has announced that a fund managed by its Infrastructure Opportunities unit had acquired a 49% stake in diversified US renewable energy assets from Portugal’s EDP Renováveis (EDPR), valuing the business at approximately US$2.9bn (for 100% of the portfolio).
The deal includes 10 assets totalling 1,632 MW of capacity, comprising 1,030 MW of solar, 402 MW of wind, and 200 MW of storage across four US power markets. All projects have secured long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), with an average remaining contract duration of 18 years.
This acquisition brings the total capacity bought by Ares Infrastructure Opportunities funds since September 2024 to about 5.7 GW spread across 11 states and five US power markets. EDPR operates renewable energy assets throughout Europe, North America, South America, and the Asia Pacific region.

The partnership will focus on developing more than 15 projects across the country, ranging from locally consented solar, battery energy storage system (BESS), and wind projects of up to 100 MW, to large-scale nationally significant infrastructure projects under development consent orders with a capacity of more than 750 MWp. All required land rights for these projects have been secured, positioning the JV to develop hybrid projects combining utility-scale solar, BESS, and wind power.
The collaboration will combine Chint Solar’s expertise in project development, engineering, procurement, construction, and financing, with Voltis’ experience in originating, consenting, and developing renewable projects across the UK. Furthermore, this partnership aligns with the objectives outlined under the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.

In June 2025, Chint Solar commenced the next phase of construction of the 130 MW Salteras solar park in Seville, Spain. The 230-hectare project, jointly developed with Tartessos Power Development and owned by Hamburg-based CEE Group, will supply clean energy to over 80,000 households annually.

Envision Energy Powers Central Asia’S Green Future With Landmark 1 Gw Wind FarmEnvision Energy, a global leader in green technology, has entered into a landmark collaboration in Kazakhstan’s 1 GW Mirny wind farm, the country’s first and most ambitious renewable energy project to date, signing a letter of award (LOA) to supply 124 of its advanced 6.5 MW wind turbines.
The agreement was signed during Kazakhstan Energy Week in Astana, in the presence of project partners TotalEnergies, Samruk-Energo JSC, and KazMunayGas.
Developed by Aktas Energy, a partnership between TotalEnergies, Samruk-Energo JSC, and KazMunayGas, the Mirny project exemplifies how strategic investment, technological innovation, and international co-operation can transform a nation's energy landscape. With an estimated annual output of 4 billion kWh, the project will power over 1 million households while preventing 3.5 million tpy of carbon dioxide emissions. With an integrated 300 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), it will also enhance grid reliability and energy security for the country to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
Envision Energy was selected for its global leadership, cost-efficient solutions that make clean energy more accessible, and its strong commitment to local content and community engagement. The first turbines are expected to arrive in Kazakhstan by late 2026, with construction scheduled to begin the same year. Once completed, the project will not only reinforce Kazakhstan's energy security but also support the nation's pathway towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

Spanish Renewable Power Capacity To Reach 218.1 Gw In 2035Spain is reinforcing its clean energy transition with ambitious targets for solar, wind, and hydrogen, backed by strong EU alignment and national reforms.
The country aims to achieve 81% renewable electricity generation by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050 under its updated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC). Against this backdrop, Spain’s cumulative renewable capacity is projected to reach 218.1GW in 2035, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1% during 2024 – 35, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s report, ‘Spain Power Market Trends and Analysis by Capacity, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Regulations, Key Players and Forecast to 2035,’ reveals that Spain’s renewable generation is expected to increase from 131.2 TWh in 2024 to 313.6 TWh in 2035, at a CAGR of 8.2%. Solar photovoltaics (PV) will remain the driving force, with capacity surging from 21.5 GW in 2021 to 152.8 GW by 2035, while onshore wind is forecast to rise from 28.7 GW in 2021 to 56.3 GW in 2035.
Mohammed Ziauddin, Power Analyst at GlobalData, commented: “Spain’s updated PNIEC and policies like the Renewable Energy Economic Regime (REER) and the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law are ensuring strong investor confidence. The competitive auction framework under REER and distributed generation incentives like the Self-Consumption Law are accelerating both utility scale and rooftop solar deployment. Offshore wind and green hydrogen are also emerging as new growth pillars, supported by EU and national funding.”
Spain’s clean energy strategy is reinforced by its limited reliance on Russian gas and diversified LNG imports, while new interconnections with France and Portugal, including the Bay of Biscay and Trans-Pyrenean projects, will enhance supply security and grid flexibility. However, challenges remain around permitting delays, curtailments due to grid constraints, and low cross-border interconnection levels that restrict efficient market integration.

The Us Reconsiders 2.8 Gw Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Park ApprovalThe US Department of Justice has notified a federal court of its intention to review, and potentially revise, the approval of the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for the Atlantic Shores South offshore wind park, located off the coast of New Jersey. The project, a joint venture between EDF and Shell, has a projected capacity of up to 2.8 GW.
In October 2024, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) granted final approval for the COP, paving the way for the development of the Atlantic Shores South offshore wind complex, including 197 wind turbines.
This move comes as the US administration continues to scrutinize offshore wind developments. In late September 2025, BOEM filed a motion in federal court seeking to withdraw its approval of the 2.4 GW SouthCoast Wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.

German Renewable Power Capacity To Reach 509.9 Gw In 2035, Forecast GlobaldataGermany is accelerating its clean energy transition with ambitious targets for renewables, hydrogen, and LNG diversification, underpinned by robust federal policies.
The country has officially phased out nuclear power as of 2023 and is committed to phasing out coal-fired generation by 2038, with discussions underway to advance the deadline to 2030. Against this backdrop, Germany’s cumulative renewable power capacity is forecast to reach 509.9 GW in 2035, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.7% during 2024 – 35, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s report, ‘Germany Power Market Trends and Analysis by Capacity, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Regulations, Key Players and Forecast to 2035,’ reveals that in 2024, renewables accounted for 54.7% of Germany’s electricity generation, led by wind and solar photovoltaics (PV). By 2035, renewable generation is expected to reach 628 TWh, accounting for 82.9% of the power mix, driven by large scale solar PV expansion and onshore and offshore wind development.
Mohammed Ziauddin, Power Analyst at GlobalData, commented: “Germany is targeting 80% renewable generation by 2030, supported by its Renewable Energy Act (EEG), National Hydrogen Strategy, and significant investment in grid modernisation. The country targets 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. Germany’s energy transition is also being shaped by geopolitical dynamics. The Russia – Ukraine war accelerated the end of Russian gas imports, leading to rapid expansion of LNG import capacity and diversification of suppliers, including Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the US. At the same time, Germany is forging hydrogen partnerships with countries such as Canada, Norway, and Namibia to secure future energy supplies.
Challenges remain in terms of grid congestion, Dunkelflaute (periods of low renewable output), and slow rollout of dispatchable gas-fired capacity to back up intermittent renewables. Rising energy prices, regulatory uncertainties, and lengthy permitting processes for wind projects also constrain deployment. However, large scale investments in hydrogen infrastructure, battery energy storage, and smart grids are expected to strengthen long-term system resilience.

India Launches 1.2 Gw Renewables-Plus-Storage TenderFrom pv magazine India
SECI has issued a tender inviting bids for the development of 1.2 GW of renewable energy projects coupled with energy storage systems to ensure an assured peak power supply of 4.8 GWh (1,200 MW x four hours) daily. The projects will be developed on a build-own-operate basis.
SECI will sign 25-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with successful bidders, acting as an intermediary between developers and the buying entities, which will be identified later.
The selected developers will set up interstate transmission system-connected renewable energy projects integrated with energy storage systems. All generation and storage components must be co-located for each project.
The scope of work for developers includes land acquisition, installation, ownership, and obtaining all necessary grid connectivity and regulatory approvals. Projects may be located anywhere in India.
The energy storage system component is mandatory and must be charged exclusively through renewable sources. Developers may either own the storage system or arrange it through a third party. Storage technology may be modified at any time during the PPA term.
Each bidder must submit a single bid for a minimum contracted capacity of 50 MW and a maximum of 600 MW, in integral values only.
According to the tender, developers must deliver 4,000 kWh of energy per MW of contracted capacity during peak hours, as scheduled by the buying entity. For example, a 100 MW project would be required to deliver up to 400 MWh of energy during peak hours on a daily basis.

Vattenfall Files Permit For 2.9 Gw Onshore Wind Project In SwedenThe Swedish energy group Vattenfall has submitted an environmental permit application for the proposed construction of the 2.9 GW Storlandet onshore wind park in northern Sweden. The submission, which includes a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), was filed with the Land and Environmental Court at the Umeå District Court. According to Vattenfall, the wind park could produce around 9 TWh/year of electricity, helping to meet the growing demand from the mining and steel industries in the region. An environmental permit can only be granted if the local municipality gives its approval — a process that could take up to three years.
As of the end of 2024, onshore wind accounted for nearly 32% of Sweden’s total installed power generation capacity (17 GW and 53 GW, respectively).

Italy'S Prysmian Selected For 2 Gw Egl4 Hvdc Interconnector (Uk)The UK’s transmission operators, SP Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission, have selected the Italian cable maker Prysmian as the preferred bidder for the Eastern Green Link 4 (EGL4) high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable interconnector project in the United Kingdom. The proposed EGL4 project will have a transmission capacity of 2 GW and will span approximately 646 km, linking Fife in Scotland to West Norfolk in England via a combination of subsea and underground cables. Planning applications are scheduled to be submitted in Scotland in late 2025 and in England in 2026. Subject to approval, construction is anticipated to begin in 2029, with the interconnector expected to become operational by 2033.
In the UK, Prysmian has previously delivered several major interconnector projects, including Eastern Green Link (EGL) 1 and 2 (each with 2 GW capacity), as well as the 1.4 GW Viking Link.

Greece And Egypt Power Tsos Sign Mou On 3 Gw Power Interconnection ProjectThe power transmission system operators (TSOs) of Greece (ADMIE) and Egypt (EETC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the project promoter ELICA, a subsidiary of the Greek investor Copelouzos Group, to advance the GREGY electricity interconnection. The €3.6bn GREGY project aims to transmit 3 GW of renewable electricity, mainly generated from Egypt’s solar and wind parks, to Europe via a submarine HVDC cable. Originally proposed in 2009, it gained renewed urgency following Europe’s energy crisis triggered by the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.
This agreement marks a significant milestone in the development of the project. GREGY is recognized as a Project of Common and Mutual Interest (PCI/PMI) and is included in the EU’s Global Gateway programme for critical infrastructure. The signing of the MoU also initiates the next phase of studies for the subsea interconnection.
GREGY is the second power-link project connecting Egypt and Greece. The first, the EuroAfrica Interconnector, which also involves Cyprus, has a planned capacity of 2,000 MW.
