India, New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has taken over the TBCB project special purpose vehicle (SPV) “SR and ER Power Transmission Limited” to implement the inter-regional transmission project connecting the Southern and Eastern regional grids. The project, valued at $300 M (₹2,722 crore) based on National Competitive Bidding (NCB/TBCB) cost estimates, adds a major asset to POWERGRID’s inter-regional transmission portfolio.
The transmission scheme involves the construction of a 765 kV double-circuit (D/C) line running through Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. It also includes building the necessary transmission line bays and installing reactor systems to maintain grid stability. Once operational, the project will significantly improve power transfer capacity between the Southern and Eastern regions.
The inter-regional strengthening project is expected to:
With renewable energy capacity expanding rapidly in eastern and southern India, the project will play a key role in balancing electricity generation and consumption across regions, ensuring a more stable and efficient power system.
POWERGRID’s acquisition of the SPV accelerates the execution of this critical project, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening India’s national grid and supporting the country’s transition to a more sustainable and reliable energy network.
