Poland: European independent power producer R.Power has entered into an optimisation agreement with energy trading company Axpo for a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Poland.

The agreement relates to the Magazyn Energii Jedwabno facility, a 150 MW/300 MWh project currently under development in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. Once completed, it is expected to rank among the largest battery storage installations in the country. Construction is already underway.

Under the terms of the contract, Axpo will be responsible for optimising the operation of the storage system. The agreement runs until 31 December 2037, supporting long-term participation of the asset in the energy market.

This marks a further step in the cooperation between the two companies in Poland, building on a medium-term Power Purchase Agreement signed in 2021. That earlier deal covered around 300 MW of solar PV capacity.

Mateusz Marczewski, Managing Director of Axpo Polska, said: “A key aspect of this project was to design a contract aligned with dynamically evolving operational and regulatory standards. This will ensure that the installation can participate efficiently in the market and provide balancing services.“

The project reflects the growing role of energy storage in supporting grid flexibility and integrating renewable energy sources in the Polish energy system.
