Italy, Rome: RWE is stepping up its renewable energy expansion in Italy. After launching 112 MW of wind and solar projects in 2025, the company has begun work on a further 123 MW in 2026, bringing total capacity under construction to 235 MW. Once completed, these projects are expected to provide electricity for more than 190,000 Italian households.

In 2025, RWE started building its first commercial-scale Agri-PV plants – Morcone (9.8 MWac) and Acquafredda (9.3 MWac) in Campania – which are now in the commissioning phase. Construction also began on the Serra Palino (47 MW) wind farm in Apulia and the Venusia (45 MW) project in Basilicata.

This year, work has started on the 66 MW Alas wind farm in Sardinia, featuring ten 6.6 MW turbines and due online in 2027. In Campania, the 19 MWac Ponte Valentino 1 & 2 solar parks are under construction in Benevento, with more than 32,000 panels installed across 25 hectares.

RWE is also developing four Agri-PV plants: Acquafredda 2 (11.7 MWac) in Campania, Enna (9.5 MWac) and Carcitella (8 MW) in Sicily, and Cava (9 MWac) in Calabria. Together they total 38.2 MWac and around 50,000 solar modules. These sites will allow grazing or crop cultivation beneath elevated panels.

In addition, the 42 MW Serra Giannina wind farm in Basilicata is set to begin construction shortly.

RWE already operates 17 onshore wind farms in Italy, with 589 MW installed capacity.
