railwayNetwork Rail engineers will be completing a major upgrade on a mile-long stretch of track near West Ruislip, replacing ageing rail sleepers with modern concrete versions, renewing ballast, and upgrading the line to improve long-term reliability. A similar programme will take place near Birmingham New Street, where half a mile of track will be brought up to modern standards.
While the railway is closed, further works will take place on the approach to London Marylebone, including essential refurbishment of track switches and crossings.
According to Network Rail, these improvements will ensure the line can support more reliable services for decades to come.

Neil Gaskin, Network Rail central route programme director, said:
Michael Stewart, commercial and customer strategy director at Chiltern Railways, added:
“I understand that no trains to or from London Marylebone for an entire weekend will significantly inconvenience our customers. I want to thank them for their patience during these works which are crucial for the future reliability of the railway.”
The works represent a significant phase in Network Rail’s ongoing investment in track modernisation, aimed at delivering smoother journeys, fewer delays, and a more resilient railway.
