Popular ‘Folk On The Flitch Line’ Music Train Event Returns In May

People in Essex can take a musical journey with Greater Anglia on Sunday 3 May.

The Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership has teamed up with the train operator to host ‘Folk on the Flitch Line’ – an evening of folk music on the Witham to Braintree line.

Original folk songs and covers will be provided by folk band, The Silburys. Band member, Scott Dolling, who also works for Greater Anglia and is the station adopter for White Notley station, recently penned an original song about the line, thought to be the first song ever written for a community rail partnership.

The first train departs at 18.26 from Witham to Braintree. It will return from Braintree at 18.59.

The second train departs Witham at 19.26, arriving back there at 20.16.

Tickets are available at the bargain price of £5 each and must be booked in advance at esscrp.org.uk/events/folk-on-the-flitch-line/

Passengers can stay for the entire event or leave whenever is convenient for them.Jane Stewart, Community Rail Partnership Officer, said: “We are very excited to welcome back The Silburys’ to delight passengers on these trains with the sound of folk music as we travel. Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager Alan Neville, said: “This is a great way to spend an evening, bring the community together as the stunning countryside passes by and showcase the talents of our fantastic local musicians.”

The Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership aims to encourage and promote use of the six rail branch lines in Essex and supports local projects developed in partnership with community groups businesses and Greater Anglia.

Their focus is on projects that promote the stations and encourage rail travel through engagement, economic growth and sustainable active travel for all.
