The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has officially awarded the final civil contract for the Downtown Line 2 extension (DTL2e) to China Railway Tunnel Group Co. Ltd.

The contract, valued at around 199 million SGD, will see China Railway Tunnel Group Co. Ltd. both design and construct tunnels between the existing Bukit Panjang station and the upcoming DE1 station on the DTL2e.

A set of twin bored tunnels will be constructed beneath Woodlands Road and existing infrastructure such as the Kranji Expressway (KJE) flyover, each at roughly 1.8 kilometres in length.

Construction will be carried out within a limited workspace due to proximity to Bukit Panjang station and, in order to minimise impact on the existing railway structures and DTL commuters, LTA will plan and coordinate with relevant agencies, as well as the DTL operator, SBS Transit, to carry out sensitive works during non-operating hours.

LTA and its contractors will also implement real-time monitoring of ground stability, as well as relevant safety measures to ensure safe conduct of all construction work whilst minimising the impact to both nearby stakeholders and infrastructure.

Construction is currently scheduled to begin during the third quarter of 2026, with passenger service set to commence on the DTL2e in 2035. Once operational, the extension will comprise three stations and enhance rail connectivity in the north-western region.
