Sydney Metro has added an extra 166 weekly services on the M1 Line, boosting capacity during peak travel times and on weekends.

Three additional trains ordered as part of the Sydney Metro Southwest extension will be temporarily brought into service to support the service uplift.

An additional 12 weekday services have been added to help manage the morning and afternoon rush, with services running every three minutes and 45 seconds during those periods until Friday April 17.

After the school holidays, more services will be added from Monday 20 April, with peak trains running every three minutes and 30 seconds.

Trains on the M1 Line will run every seven minutes instead of every 10 during weekends, delivering an extra 58 services on Saturdays and 48 on Sundays. This represents an increase of around 40 per cent in weekend capacity across the metro network.

Once the next phase of testing for the Southwest extension begins and the three new trains are required for testing activities, weekday peak services will return to every four minutes.

The more frequent seven‑minute weekend services will continue during this time.

Line closures will proceed as planned to connect the Bankstown extension with the existing M1 Line, ahead of the opening of the Sydney Metro Southwest later this year.
