railwayTrain services through Euroa have been switched to new rail lines in front of Euroa Station, marking a key milestone in the upgrade of the station precinct.
The change allows for the removal of the old eastern track and platform, enabling works to begin on a new station forecourt, car park and improved pedestrian access, opening the area to Railway and Binney streets.
Construction of the rail bridge over the future Anderson Street underpass has supported the installation of the new east and west tracks in front of the station.
Albury line services will initially operate on the new west track but will not stop at Euroa Station until the western platform is completed later this year, with coach services in place during this period.
Work will now begin to commission the new east track.
As construction progresses, changes to pedestrian access and parking will be implemented. Temporary public parking will be available at the Euroa Hotel car park off McGuinness Street.
The Railway Street bus stop will also be relocated to McGuinness Street for both V/Line and Public Transport Victoria services.
Excavation for the Anderson Street underpass is continuing, with around 40,000 cubic metres of material – equivalent to 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools – to be removed as part of the works.
An Inland Rail spokesperson said the track switch was a significant step forward.
“Having train services up and running on the new tracks and over the rail bridge marks an important milestone for the project,” the spokesperson said.
“We are now removing the old east track and platform and starting work to open the station to the town.
“The team has also made strong progress on excavation of the Anderson Street underpass.
“We thank the Euroa community for their patience and cooperation as we continue to transform the station precinct.”
