The

Utah Transit Authority

has begun the extension of the S-Line streetcar and will rebuild the 2100 South grade crossing this summer.

The S-Line extension will continue the line about a quarter mile across Highland Drive and include a new station near Highland Drive and Simpson Avenue, UTA officials said in a press release. UTA will continue operating the S-Line during construction, which is due to be completed by fall 2027.

Work on the 2100 South grade crossing, including rail replacement and infrastructure upgrades, is projected to take about a month, with a scheduled completion date of June 20. Bus bridges will be in place where service is suspended during construction.

Starting in July, UTA will also

begin rebuilding track at the 600 South grade crossing and cleaning ballast, replacing worn rails, and realigning and resurfacing track at the East Ninth Avenue curves.
