road-bridgeMajor infrastructure works are underway at Rocklea to improve flood resilience and maintain access to the Brisbane Markets during severe weather events.
The Curzon Street Bridge upgrade is being delivered through a joint initiative between the Australian and Queensland governments in partnership with Brisbane Markets Limited.
The works form part of a broader resilience investment under the Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Program.
The project will raise the bridge by around 1.2 metres and include a full road reconstruction along Curzon Street. Additional works will deliver a reinforced bridge deck, retaining wall, upgraded pedestrian access, improved entry controls, and new electrical and communications infrastructure.
The upgrades are designed to maintain supply chain access and support continued operations at the Brisbane Markets during flood events, protecting a key freight and distribution hub for fresh produce across South East Queensland.
Federal Minister for Emergency Management, Kristy McBain, said the project will improve resilience and reliability during natural disasters.
“This investment will ensure the region is better prepared for when disasters strike,” McBain said.
Queensland Minister for Disaster Recovery Ann Leahy said the upgrades form part of a broader strategy to strengthen critical infrastructure.
“The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a key election commitment to make Curzon Street Bridge more flood resilient,” Leahy said.
Brisbane Markets Limited Managing Director and CEO Andrew Young said the works will improve access and operational continuity for market users.
“It will improve site access and operational efficiencies for all Market users,” Young said.
He said the upgrades are critical to maintaining fresh produce supply before, during and after flood events.
The Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Program is supported through efficiencies under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
