road-bridgeA major project to upgrade Queensland’s Mount Lindesay Highway in Jimboomba is now complete, marking a significant milestone for one of the fastest-growing communities in the state’s south east.
The $95 million road works – jointly funded by the State and Federal governments – has transformed a 1.5-kilometre stretch of the highway between Johanna Street and South Street from a two-lane bottleneck into a four-lane passageway.
This road widening has boosted capacity and eased congestion along the critical commuter and freight corridor, while also improving safety.
Additionally, a new southbound bridge was constructed over the former rail line, which delivers safer and more reliable travel through Jimboomba while separating vehicles from pedestrians and cyclists.
Catherine King, Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, said the project reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports growing communities.
“The Mount Lindesay Highway upgrade at Jimboomba is now open to traffic, marking an important milestone in delivering the infrastructure Queensland communities rely on,” she said.
“The upgrade improves safety, reduces congestion and strengthens connections for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.”

Other major intersection upgrades at Johanna Street and Tamborine Street, and at South Street and Brisbane Street, are already improving traffic flow and reducing conflict points.
New walking and cycling infrastructure, including a shared underpass along the historic rail corridor, is also helping locals move around more safely and comfortably.
Brent Mickelberg, Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, said these road works were already making a real difference for locals and businesses.
“This upgrade is about restoring safety and delivering a more resilient road for Jimboomba and surrounding communities,” he said.
“Locals can now see and feel the difference this investment has made.
“This upgrade is just another way we’re delivering on our plan for Queensland’s future, by delivering the roads and infrastructure needed for our growing population.”
