New York State Department of Transport (NYSDOT) has named AECOM as its chosen design-build contractor for a project to replace two 1951 bridges.
The Bronx River Parkway Bridges, used by tens of thousands of commuters each day, are nearing the end of their service lives and will be replaced by modern structures. The new bridges will feature redundant steel girders, stainless-steel reinforced concrete decks, concrete piers, fewer bridge joints, and other enhancements designed to reduce long-term maintenance costs and strengthen resilience against the effects of climate change and severe weather. It will also have curbs, ramps and sidewalks that comply with the USAâs access standards for disabled people.
The project includes a new shared-use path to give cyclists and pedestrians access to the Bronx River Greenway.
