Fifteen Shropshire schools are to receive a share of over £13,000 to help enable children to cycle, walk or scoot to and from school.

The money is from £30,000 awarded to Shropshire Council from Active Travel England last year, with all schools in the council’s area invited to apply for up to £1,000 to spend on active travel initiatives.

The first round of funding was awarded in July 2025, when 18 schools were awarded a total of £16,176. In this second round, a total of £13,710 has been awarded.

It’s in addition to Active Travel England funding awarded to 24 Shropshire schools in 2024.

In this second round applications were received from schools across the county and the funding has now been awarded for the following:

Rob Wilson, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for active travel, said:

“I’m delighted that we been able to again award this funding to schools from across the county to help enable children to travel to school on foot, by bike or by scooter. Walking, cycling or scooting to school is a great way for children to keep fit and stay healthy. It also helps to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads near schools, so helps to keep children safe too.

“Thank you to all the schools who applied.”
