The Queensland Government has released a detailed design tender for two new south-facing ramps to the Sunshine Motorway at Mount Coolum.

The project includes an upgraded Sunshine Motorway to West Coolum Road interchange, integrating with Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s plan to connect Suncoast Beach Drive and South Coolum Road to West Road.

An invitation-only tender has been sent to a select group of qualified experts to complete the detailed design work for this road upgrade, which aims to help ease congestion at the busy Yandina-Coolum Road roundabout.

To inform the next stage of the project, a draft concept for the two new south-facing ramps has also been released for community feedback.

According to Brent Mickelberg, Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, the project was a long-overdue upgrade that would make a real difference for locals.

“Communities like Coolum and Mount Coolum are growing quickly,” he said, “and they deserve infrastructure that keeps pace.”

Fiona Simpson, State Member for Maroochydore, said the release of the upgrade’s draft concept provided an opportunity for locals to have their say on a critical project and ensure its safety and efficiency.

“Locals know these roads better than anyone,” she said, “and I encourage the community to have their say on this important concept so we can deliver better connectivity, greater safety, and a better lifestyle through a stronger economy.”

Community feedback is open until 15 May 2026, and will help inform the next phase of the project.
