The new Brisbane Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics at the 2032 Games, before becoming the city’s main stadium in legacy mode with 63,000 seats and a concert capacity of 70,000.

It will become a home ground for current AFL Premiers the Brisbane Lions, and cricket’s Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash, Queensland Bulls at interstate level, as well as an outstanding international cricket venue for Tests, one dayers and T20s.

BMD Group’s early works program will include bulk earthworks as well as erosion and sediment controls, haul roads, semi-permanent fencing, stormwater drains, retaining walls and establishment of a logistics plaza.

The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) undertook a comprehensive two-phase open market procurement process to select the early works contractor, including an Invitation for Prequalification (IFP) which received 22 responses, followed by an Invitation to Offer (ITO) in accordance with approved Procurement and Evaluation Plan.

BMD is a family-owned company founded in Queensland in 1979 before growing to become one of Australia’s leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development businesses.

The stadium early works are due for completion by the middle of 2027.

GIICA took possession of Victoria Park on 1 June to commence work on the site including initial site establishment activities on the Herston side of the site including the installation of temporary fencing, changes to traffic and transport routes, ongoing site investigations and survey work, and the repurposing of some existing buildings into site facilities and offices.

Delivery of the stadium ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games remains firmly on schedule.

Design work continues to progress, the Early Contractor Involvement process is in full swing to identify the final builder, and an Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) referral was deemed “not a controlled action” in May, meaning the Victoria Park precinct does not require any further Commonwealth environmental assessments or approvals.

Both located in Victoria Park; the new Brisbane Stadium and National Aquatic Centre are part of the A$7.1 billion Games Venues Infrastructure Program jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
