The redeveloped WACA Ground has officially reopened, marking the beginning of a new era for one of Australian cricket’s most iconic venues.

Following a $189 million transformation, the historic ground has been reimagined as a modern sporting and community precinct that blends more than 130 years of cricket heritage with world-class facilities and family-friendly amenities.

The WACA Ground Improvement Project was jointly funded by the Australian Government, Western Australian Government and the City of Perth, in collaboration with WA Cricket and Cricket Australia, with support from Lotterywest.

At the heart of the redevelopment is a state-of-the-art High Performance Centre, featuring a 10-lane indoor cricket facility and elite training amenities designed to support players from grassroots through to the professional level.

The upgraded precinct strengthens Western Australia’s cricket pathway while enhancing its ability to host domestic and international fixtures.

Beyond elite sport, the project introduces The Pavilion, a new aquatic and wellness zone that includes a resort-style pool, waterslides, splash park, fully equipped gymnasium and group fitness studios.

The additions ensure the WACA Ground evolves into a year-round community destination, offering recreation and lifestyle opportunities alongside its cricketing function.

Families can also enjoy the Lotterywest Karda Playspace, while Wirin Cafe provides an on-site hospitality offering within the revitalised precinct.

A refreshed museum, set to open mid-year, will celebrate the venue’s rich history and iconic moments, preserving the stories that have shaped cricket in Western Australia. Aboriginal cultural narratives have been embedded into the planning and design, ensuring the redevelopment reflects both heritage and inclusivity.

Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King described the project as a defining moment for sport in Western Australia, highlighting the importance of honouring history while creating a space that brings communities together.

WA Deputy Premier and Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti said the redevelopment ensures the WACA Ground will continue to play a central role in the state’s sporting landscape for generations, offering benefits for professional athletes and local families alike.

Federal Member for Perth Patrick Gorman said the completion of the project would deliver significant economic and lifestyle benefits to the city, while City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds noted the City’s $25 million contribution towards the aquatic facility as part of its commitment to vibrant community infrastructure.

Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg said the upgraded facilities provide a major boost for Australian cricket, benefiting teams, players and the broader cricket community. WA Cricket chief executive John Stephenson described the reopening as a moment that honours the past while positioning the venue for the future, strengthening development pathways and creating a precinct active 365 days a year.

The revitalised WACA Ground now stands as a unique inner-city sporting destination, combining elite cricket performance, community recreation and heritage preservation in the heart of Perth.
