N Uttam Kumar Reddy has emphasized that the government is giving utmost priority to the Singur Dam, vowing not to compromise on its protection and rehabilitation. The dam, which supplies drinking water to Hyderabad and supports irrigation in surrounding areas, is considered a vital infrastructure asset.
Speaking at a high-level meeting at the Telangana Secretariat on Wednesday, the minister was briefed on the safety features of several dams in the state. Officials noted that the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) had flagged concerns regarding the Singur project, prompting state authorities to initiate follow-up measures.
Minister Reddy directed immediate technical interventions, including underwater inspections and accelerated repair work, to mitigate any risks. He also announced plans to personally visit the dam soon and instructed contractors to complete the repair works within a single season to prevent disruptions to agriculture.
