Chennai is set to get its long-awaited second airport at Parandur, with the Centre granting in-principle approval for the greenfield project, sources told BusinessLine. The approval marks the completion of the second stage of the Greenfield Airports (GFA) policy, which requires both site clearance and an in-principle nod.
Located about 70 km west of Chennai, the Parandur airport project can now move forward with land acquisition and construction activities. The responsibility for implementing the project now lies with the designated airport developer and the Tamil Nadu government.
The new airport is expected to significantly boost air connectivity and support the region’s growing passenger and cargo traffic needs.
