DENVER – April 7, 2025 – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has accepted Denver International Airport’s (DEN) Safety Management System (SMS) Manual, marking a significant milestone in DEN’s commitment to aviation safety. The SMS Manual provides a structured framework to proactively identify, assess and mitigate safety risks across all airport operations.
“The safety of our employees and passengers is the top priority at DEN. I’m proud that DEN is a leader when it comes to safety policies and practices,” DEN CEO Phil Washington said. “We will continue to work alongside the federal government, major U.S. airports and airlines to share best practices and improve safety standards across the industry.”
DEN’s dedication to safety excellence is reinforced in the SMS pillars:
As a next step, DEN will expand its safety training initiatives for employees and partners. DEN also plans to enhance the use of data analytics to proactively manage safety trends and continue collaborating with industry partners to refine best practices.
DEN encourages all employees and stakeholders to actively engage in safety initiatives. This includes reporting hazards through the confidential “See Say” reporting system, participating in ongoing safety training programs, and contributing to a culture of continuous safety improvement.
Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. DEN is the primary economic engine for the state of Colorado, generating more than $47.2 billion for the region annually.
