Israeli battery developer StoreDot has signed a licensing agreement with Korean battery manufacturer Kumyang. The agreement covers the mass production of cylindrical battery cells based on StoreDotʼs Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) technology. Until now, this technology was only available for prismatic and pouch cells. Kumyang plans to integrate XFC technology into its production lines for large-format cylindrical cells, particularly in the 4680 format.
According to StoreDot, cells with this technology can be charged from ten to 80 percent within ten minutes. Initial tests with the 4695 format indicate a cycle life of over 1,000 charge cycles with standard charging. The volumetric energy density is said to exceed 800 watt-hours per liter. The agreement follows a joint development phase in which the companies optimized the cell architecture. It is not yet known when production of the cylindrical cells with StoreDotʼs XFC technology will begin. There is also no information on the intended production volume.
