powerplantUK, Scotland: ScottishPower, SSE, Scottish Water and Openreach have announced a joint commitment to support Scotland’s communities through a major infrastructure investment programme worth around $62 B (£46 B) between 2025 and 2030.
The companies, responsible for the country’s energy, water and digital networks, have outlined their plans in a shared Statement of Ambition. The programme aims to strengthen local employment and skills, boost the Scottish supply chain, engage communities and protect the environment while modernising essential infrastructure.
The investment is expected to support tens of thousands of jobs and inject billions of dollars into supply chains across Scotland. The projects are designed to create stronger, better connected and more resilient communities across the country, from Stornoway to Stranraer.
Beyond upgrading infrastructure, the companies say the programme will also deliver wider benefits, including support for community initiatives and environmental restoration.
Charles Langan, Chief Financial Officer at ScottishPower, said: “What lies before us is a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not just deliver the modern utilities we need but increase Scotland’s highly skilled workforce and supply chains, building a legacy that ensures the country prospers and thrives.”
Rhian Kelly, Chief Sustainability Officer at SSE, said the company is committed to investing in Scotland’s future through projects that deliver jobs, strong local supply chains and infrastructure suited to a clean power economy.
Alex Plant, Chief Executive of Scottish Water, noted that cooperation between major infrastructure providers and government could maximise the benefits of this once-in-a-generation investment opportunity.
Katie Milligan, Deputy CEO of Openreach, added that improved digital connectivity and full-fibre upgrades will help homes, businesses and public services across Scotland thrive.
