Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has secured REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited’s transmission project to evacuate power from 1,500 MW pumped storage projects (PSPs) near Talegaon, Maharashtra. The tender was floated in October 2024. AESL won the bid quoting Rs 16.6 billion, with transmission charges set at Rs 2.21 billion. Other qualified bidders in the technical round included Power Grid Corporation of India Limited and Resonia Limited.
AESL will undertake the project on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis through its special purpose vehicle, WRNES Talegaon Power Transmission. The scope of project includes conducting surveys, preparing the detailed project report, arranging finances, managing the project, and securing required consents, clearances, permits, and land compensation. Additionally, the scope includes design, engineering, procurement of materials and equipment, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning. The project involves establishing a 3,000 MVA capacity substation, setting up a 2×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV substation south of Kalamb and looping in and looping-out of the Pune-III–Boisar-II 765 kV double circuit line at the Kalamb substation.
The project is expected to be completed by January 2028. The planned Kalamb substation is expected to serve the increased electricity demand from Mumbai and Ambernath areas. Upon completion, Adani’s transmission network will reach 26,696 ckm and 93,236 MVA of transformation capacity. Furthermore, the company’s total transmission order book now stands at Rs 616 billion.
