Brookfield Asset Management has raised USD20 billion, the final close of its Brookfield Global Transition Fund II, in capital commitments to accelerate the energy transition globally.
The fund will support a diversified portfolio of wind, solar, battery storage, carbon capture, and other clean technologies, including more than 10 GW of renewable energy and storage projects in India through its joint venture, Evren. The fund has exceeded its initial fundraising target and includes contributions from global institutional investors, with USD2 billion committed by ALTÉRRA and USD1.5 billion from Norges Bank Investment Management. An additional USD3.5 billion in co-investment capital has been secured, taking the total capital raised under this strategy to USD23.5 billion.

India Strengthens Its Solar Lead With 127 Gw Installed And 29.46 Gw Added In 2025India has made significant progress in renewable energy, with solar power emerging as the main driver of growth. By the end of September 2025, the country had installed 127,332.29 megawatts of solar photovoltaic capacity, accounting for over 64.57 percent of its total renewable energy portfolio, excluding large hydro projects. This progress has been supported by the continuous fall in solar panel prices, steady technological improvements, strong government policies, and growing public awareness about clean energy.
Between January and September 2025, or the first three quarters of the year, India added 29,467.57 megawatts of new solar capacity. In September alone, 4,202.16 megawatts were installed, marking a 3.41 percent increase compared to August. Wind energy also expanded during the same month, with 442.6 megawatts added. These figures show India’s strong commitment to scaling up renewable power and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Government initiatives have played a key role in this progress. The Production-Linked Incentive scheme has boosted domestic manufacturing of solar equipment, reducing import reliance. Another important step has been the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) policy, which ensures quality and reliability in solar projects. Reintroduced on April 1, 2024, the policy makes it mandatory for government projects to use only certified solar modules. From June 1, 2026, the same rule will extend to solar PV cells, further strengthening efficiency and performance standards.
As of September 2025, India’s renewable energy capacity, excluding large hydro, stood at 197.201 gigawatts. Solar and wind together contributed around 180.456 gigawatts, which is more than 91.51 percent of the total. Ground-mounted solar remains the largest contributor with 97.15 gigawatts installed, while rooftop solar has reached 21.52 gigawatts. Rooftop systems are becoming more popular among households, industries, and businesses due to cost savings and greater energy independence. Solar-wind hybrid projects have also reached 3.26 gigawatts, improving land use and transmission efficiency.
Off-grid solar systems are bringing major benefits to rural regions. With a combined capacity of over 5.4 gigawatts, they are replacing diesel generators and improving energy access. These include solar lanterns, solar water pumps for agriculture, and local mini-grids that help rural users cut costs and reduce pollution.
Despite this strong growth, challenges remain. Land acquisition for large solar parks is becoming harder, and grid integration of variable solar power needs better infrastructure and balancing technology. Global trade developments are also influencing India’s solar expansion. Higher import duties on solar modules in the U.S. have redirected many suppliers to India, increasing availability and reducing costs. With steady installations, favorable policies, and strong investments, India continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in renewable energy.

Equinor And Gwynt Glas Secure 1.5 Gw Floating Wind Leases In The UkNorway’s Equinor and UK-based Gwynt Glas (a joint venture of EDF and Ireland's ESB) have signed Agreements for Lease with The Crown Estate for their respective floating offshore wind projects in the Celtic Sea (United Kingdom), marking a key milestone in the UK’s Offshore Wind Leasing Round 5. The two developers were named preferred bidders in June 2025 for sites located off the coasts of South Wales and south-west England, each with a planned capacity of up to 1.5 GW. These agreements grant the companies exclusive rights to advance the development of their projects.
Round 5 is expected to deliver up to 4.5 GW of floating offshore wind capacity across three sites in total. The Crown Estate noted it is still working to appoint a developer for the third remaining site and will provide an update in due course. Once project development is complete, the selected developers will be eligible to apply for full commercial leases to build and operate the wind parks, which could become operational by the mid-2030s.

Slovakia Approves Us Deal For 1 Gw Nuclear ReactorSlovakia’s government has approved an agreement with the United States to construct a new nuclear reactor. The reactor will be built at the existing Jaslovské Bohunice nuclear power plant in western Slovakia. With a planned capacity of over 1 GW, the project will be fully state-owned. However, it remains unclear when the agreement between the two governments will be formally signed.
While few additional details were disclosed, the Slovak government had previously approved a plan in 2024 for a 1.2 GW reactor at the same site, where the main utility, Slovenské Elektrárne, currently operates two nuclear units. Although the government initially intended to launch a public tender to select a contractor, it recently announced that it is now in direct negotiations with the US-based company Westinghouse.
Nuclear energy plays a major role in Slovakia’s energy mix, accounting for 61% of the country’s electricity generation in 2024.

Grid Bottlenecks Stall 1,700 Gw Of RenewablesFrance, Paris: A record 750 GW of new renewable energy capacity will be added globally in 2025, but 1,700 GW remains stalled “in the queue”, waiting to be connected to power grids, according to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) latest annual renewables report.
Speaking at the report’s launch, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol described the backlog as “economically criminal”, warning that it represents one of the biggest obstacles to achieving the COP28 goal of tripling renewable capacity by 2030.
The IEA’s analysis shows that, under current conditions, renewable capacity is on track to rise 2.6 times by 2030 compared to 2022, falling short of the threefold target. Birol stressed that the shortfall could be closed if bottlenecks in grid integration, flexibility, and system planning are addressed.
“Curtailment is on the rise,” Birol said, adding that there remains a deep imbalance between investment in power generation and transmission infrastructure, with only half a dollar spent on grids for every dollar spent on new power plants.
The report highlights that variable renewables are placing growing pressure on electricity systems, with negative pricing events and energy waste already common in several markets. The IEA called for urgent investment in grids, storage, and flexible generation, alongside comprehensive transmission and planning strategies.
It also noted renewed momentum for pumped-storage hydropower, with growth expected to accelerate by 80 % in the next five years.
The IEA projects that global renewable power capacity will grow by 4,600 GW by 2030, led by solar PV, which is expected to account for 80 % of that increase, alongside wind, hydropower, and bioenergy.

Chint Solar And Voltis Form Jv To Develop 5 Gw Renewable Projects In UkChint Solar and Voltis have established a new joint venture (JV) named Voltison to jointly develop a renewable energy and storage portfolio of approximately 5 GW in the UK. The partnership will focus on developing more than 15 projects across the country, ranging from locally consented solar, battery energy storage system (BESS), and wind projects of up to 100 MW, to large-scale nationally significant infrastructure projects under development consent orders with a capacity of more than 750 MWp. All required land rights for these projects have been secured, positioning the JV to develop hybrid projects combining utility-scale solar, BESS, and wind power.
The collaboration will combine Chint Solar’s expertise in project development, engineering, procurement, construction, and financing, with Voltis’ experience in originating, consenting, and developing renewable projects across the UK. Furthermore, this partnership aligns with the objectives outlined under the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.
For this transaction, Alexa Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor to Voltis. Ashurst and Eversheds Sutherland served as legal advisors to Voltis and Chint Solar, respectively.
In June 2025, Chint Solar commenced the next phase of construction of the 130 MW Salteras solar park in Seville, Spain. The 230-hectare project, jointly developed with Tartessos Power Development and owned by Hamburg-based CEE Group, will supply clean energy to over 80,000 households annually.

Portugal’S Edpr Sells 1.6 Gw Of Us Renewable Energy Assets To Ares ManagementThe US investment manager Ares Management has announced that a fund managed by its Infrastructure Opportunities unit had acquired a 49% stake in diversified US renewable energy assets from Portugal’s EDP Renováveis (EDPR), valuing the business at approximately US$2.9bn (for 100% of the portfolio).
The deal includes 10 assets totalling 1,632 MW of capacity, comprising 1,030 MW of solar, 402 MW of wind, and 200 MW of storage across four US power markets. All projects have secured long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), with an average remaining contract duration of 18 years.
This acquisition brings the total capacity bought by Ares Infrastructure Opportunities funds since September 2024 to about 5.7 GW spread across 11 states and five US power markets. EDPR operates renewable energy assets throughout Europe, North America, South America, and the Asia Pacific region.

Spanish Renewable Power Capacity To Reach 218.1 Gw In 2035Spain is reinforcing its clean energy transition with ambitious targets for solar, wind, and hydrogen, backed by strong EU alignment and national reforms.
The country aims to achieve 81% renewable electricity generation by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050 under its updated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC). Against this backdrop, Spain’s cumulative renewable capacity is projected to reach 218.1GW in 2035, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1% during 2024 – 35, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s report, ‘Spain Power Market Trends and Analysis by Capacity, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Regulations, Key Players and Forecast to 2035,’ reveals that Spain’s renewable generation is expected to increase from 131.2 TWh in 2024 to 313.6 TWh in 2035, at a CAGR of 8.2%. Solar photovoltaics (PV) will remain the driving force, with capacity surging from 21.5 GW in 2021 to 152.8 GW by 2035, while onshore wind is forecast to rise from 28.7 GW in 2021 to 56.3 GW in 2035.
Mohammed Ziauddin, Power Analyst at GlobalData, commented: “Spain’s updated PNIEC and policies like the Renewable Energy Economic Regime (REER) and the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law are ensuring strong investor confidence. Spain’s clean energy strategy is reinforced by its limited reliance on Russian gas and diversified LNG imports, while new interconnections with France and Portugal, including the Bay of Biscay and Trans-Pyrenean projects, will enhance supply security and grid flexibility. However, challenges remain around permitting delays, curtailments due to grid constraints, and low cross-border interconnection levels that restrict efficient market integration.

The Us Reconsiders 2.8 Gw Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Park ApprovalThe US Department of Justice has notified a federal court of its intention to review, and potentially revise, the approval of the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for the Atlantic Shores South offshore wind park, located off the coast of New Jersey. The project, a joint venture between EDF and Shell, has a projected capacity of up to 2.8 GW.
In October 2024, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) granted final approval for the COP, paving the way for the development of the Atlantic Shores South offshore wind complex, including 197 wind turbines.
This move comes as the US administration continues to scrutinize offshore wind developments. In late September 2025, BOEM filed a motion in federal court seeking to withdraw its approval of the 2.4 GW SouthCoast Wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.
