The EBRD has signed a financing package that will support the development of two large-scale solar-plus-storage projects in Uzbekistan.
The funding is being split between two special purpose vehicles – ACWA Power Sazagan Solar 1 and ACWA Power Sazagan Solar 2 – that are each majority owned by Saudi developer ACWA Power and will be co-owned by Japanese investors Sumitomo Corp., Shikoku Electric Power Co., and Chubu Electric Power Co.
ACWA Power Sazagan Solar 1 will receive a loan of $61 million for the development, construction and operation of a 500 MW solar plant alongside 668 MWh of battery energy storage in the Samarkand region of central Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, an $81 million loan is being provided to ACWA Power Sazagan Solar 2 for the development, construction and operation of a 500 MW solar plant in the Samarkand region and a 668 MWh BESS in Uzbekistan’s neighboring Bukhara region.
When combined, the 1 GW of solar and 1.34 GWh of battery energy storage will be the largest solar-plus-storage facility in Uzbekistan and the wider region, EBRD says. The bank’s statement adds that the battery energy storage technology will improve grid reliability and flexibility by making additional energy capacity available during periods of peak demand.
The projects are expected to be co-financed by the Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Nippon Export and Investment Insurance covered lenders.
EBRD says it has invested €5.35 billion ($6.2 billion) in Uzbekistan to date across 188 projects, including projects that encompass 1.4 GW of solar capacity, 334 MW/501 MWh of battery energy storage and 1.65 GW of wind capacity.
Uzbekistan’s cumulative solar capacity stood at 2,275 MW at the end of 2024, up from 475 MW at the end of the year prior, according to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The government of Uzbekistan is aiming to deploy 25 GW of solar and wind energy by 2030.

Armenia Hits 1 Gw Solar MilestoneArmenia has surpassed 1 GW of installed solar capacity, meeting its national solar target four years ahead of schedule, according to Infrastructure Minister David Khudadtyan. The announcement, first reported by the ARKA news agency, marks a significant milestone for the nation’s clean energy transition.
Khudadtyan said the government is preparing to adjust its renewable energy incentives, with plans to scale back subsidies for standalone solar systems from 2026 and redirect support toward hybrid and battery storage projects.
“We intend to maintain the subsidy program, but we are solely focusing on supporting the installation of solar panels in conjunction with battery storage systems. This proposal is currently under review,” he said. “It is also possible to provide separate subsidies for the installation of batteries at existing solar power plants. The rationale is straightforward: the existence of 1,000 MW solar power plants presents certain challenges for Armenia's energy system.”
The 1 GW threshold suggests strong solar deployment in 2025. Data from the International Renewable Energy Agency show Armenia’s cumulative capacity stood at 485 MW at the end of 2024.
Armenia currently operates a net-metering regime that allows households and businesses to install systems of up to 150 kW for self-consumption and export surplus power to the Electric Networks of Armenia.
The Armenian Energy Agency reported in May that 37,465 distributed solar producers were connected to the grid as of April, providing a combined 486 MW, with an additional 31 MW awaiting connection.
In June, Spain-based FRV commissioned a 62 MW solar plant in eastern Armenia under a long-term power purchase agreement with the Electric Networks of Armenia, the country’s largest project to date.
Solar power now accounts for 17.2% of Armenia’s total electricity generation, according to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, trailing thermal generation at 30.4%, nuclear at 26.3%, and hydropower at 26.1%.

Bloom Energy Says It’S On Track For 2 Gw Annual Production CapacityFuel cell manufacturer Bloom Energy said it is on track to double its annual production capacity to reach 2 GW by the end of 2026. The company provides on-site, gas-fueled power to the industrial and utility sectors.
KR Sridhar, the company’s founder and CEO, said on an earnings call Tuesday that high demand from artificial intelligence data centers is a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to redefine how power is generated and delivered” for commercial and industrial customers.
On-site natural gas power generation is a necessity for high-performance AI factories, he said.
Bloom produces two main products, one that generates electricity and one for producing hydrogen. It has deployed about 1.4 GW of its energy systems in more than 1,000 locations in nine countries, according to Reuters. Its technology is based on solid oxide fuel cells that generally run on natural gas today, but the company says they're fuel-agnostic and could run on green hydrogen. The company says the fuel cells use 15%-20% less fuel to produce the same amount of energy compared with combustion turbines.
“Every year, for over a decade, our fuel cells have seen double-digit, year-over-year cost reductions,” Sridhar said.
The company can now compete in “large, power-hungry markets” across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Texas, not just in higher-priced electricity markets like California and the northeastern United States, Sridhar said.
Bloom’s latest financial report shows a significant boost in research and development spending that Sridhar said would support further performance improvements. The company posted record revenue and a modest profit on adjusted earnings.
To make the most of the on-site power generation opportunity, Sridhar said Bloom is targeting the entire data center ecosystem.
This year, it has has signed agreements with hyperscalers like Oracle; electricity providers like AEP, which sells power to Amazon Web Services; colocation firms like Equinix, which rents server rack space to a range of companies and with which Bloom has deployed more than 100 MW of fuel cells; and “neoclouds” like Coreweave, which Sridhar said uses Bloom fuel cells at one of its Illinois data centers.
In each segment, Bloom identifies a major customer as its “lighthouse account” to establish credibility for other Tier 1 customers in the space, Sridhar said. Bloom ran this playbook last decade in the telecom business, he added, landing first AT&T and then competitors like T-Mobile to become “the standard for on-site power” in that industry.
Bloom is also helping gas companies looking to produce and sell on-site power to technology customers and infrastructure companies developing large-scale data centers, Sridhar said. Bloom announced a $5 billion partnership earlier this month with Canadian infrastructure giant Brookfield Asset Management that will position the fuel cell company as “the premier on-site power provider for Brookfield’s $1 trillion infrastructure portfolio,” he said.
This week, Sridhar suggested the $5 billion agreement was just the first phase of what could be a much larger partnership. Brookfield has already invested $50 billion in AI opportunities “and is tripling the size of its AI strategy over the next three years,” he said.
“It’s a very big relationship; I cannot overstate how important it is to us,” Sridhar said.
Earlier this month, Bloom said the two companies are actively collaborating on the design and construction of data centers globally and would announce a specific site in Europe before the year is out. On Tuesday, Sridhar described that facility as an AI inference data center, hosting AI models that respond to user inquiries in real time.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s proposal last week to expand the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s authority over large-load interconnections makes it “very obvious [that] even when you get that interconnection … you are entering the age of ‘bring-your-own-power,’” Sridhar said.
He said Bloom fuel cell systems are ideal for data centers hoping to power up before they get a firm grid connection, operate through peak-period curtailments thereafter and reduce net power costs through net metering arrangements with their utilities.
He acknowledged that other firm power resources, including open-cycle gas turbines, can and will fill the same niche for large data centers. But he downplayed concerns about being outcompeted given the vast opportunity at hand.

In Detail :India’s power sector has achieved two historic milestones that show the nation’s steady progress toward a clean, secure, and self-reliant energy future.
As of 30 September 2025, the country’s total installed electricity capacity has crossed 500 GW, reaching 500.89 GW. This achievement reflects years of strong policy support, investments, and teamwork across the energy sector.
During FY 2025–26 (April – September 2025), India added 28 GW of non-fossil capacity and 5.1 GW of fossil-fuel capacity — showing how fast the clean energy share is rising.
On 29 July 2025, India reached its highest-ever renewable energy share in electricity generation.
That day, renewables met 51.5 % of the country’s total electricity demand of 203 GW.
This means that, for the first time, more than half of India’s power came from green sources in a single day — a remarkable sign of change.
With this progress, India has already achieved one of its major COP26 Panchamrit goals — to have 50 % of installed electric power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 — five years early.
This success highlights India’s leadership in clean energy transition, achieved while keeping the electricity grid stable and reliable.
Significance of the achievement
India’s renewable energy push is creating new employment opportunities in manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and innovation—benefiting both rural and urban youth.

Saudi Arabia Awards 4.5 Gw Of Renewable Energy ProjectsSaudi Arabia’s Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has awarded five renewable energy projects under the sixth phase of the National Renewable Energy Programme supervised by the Ministry of Energy, with a cumulative capacity of 4.5 GW. The awarded projects include one wind and four solar projects, with total investments exceeding $2.4 billion. SPPC will oversee predevelopment studies, tendering, and power purchase agreements for the projects.
The Dawadmi wind independent power producer (IPP) plant, with a capacity of 1,500 MW, was awarded to a consortium including Korea Electric Power Corporation, Nesma Renewable Energy Company, and Etihad Water and Electricity Company PJSC. The project, located in Riyadh province, reportedly achieved a record-low levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) of $0.01338 per kWh. The Najran solar energy project, located in the Najran region with a capacity of 1,400 MW, is being developed in partnership with Masdar. The project recorded a LCOE of $0.01096 per kWh.
The Ad Darb solar PV IPP plant and Samtah solar PV IPP plant are both located in Jazan province and have capacities of 600 MW each. The Ad Darb plant was awarded to Masdar and recorded a LCOE of $0.01360 per kWh. The Samtah plant was awarded to a consortium comprising Saudi Electricity Company and EDF Power Solutions International SAS, and recorded a LCOE of $0.01486 per kWh. The As Sufun solar PV IPP plant, located in Hail province with a capacity of 400 MW, was awarded to a consortium comprising Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company holding and TotalEnergies Renewables SAS. The project reported a LCOE of $0.01506 per kWh.

Alpex Solar To Upgrade Solar Cell Manufacturing Plant To 2.2 Gw With G12R Topcon Technology – EqNew 2.2 GW G12R cell facility, powered by an internal accrual of ~₹136 Crore, is designed to secure long-term profitability and avoid future upgrade disruptions
New Delhi, India –Alpex Solar Limited, a leading integrated solar energy manufacturer, today announced a significant strategic pivot in its manufacturing roadmap, upgrading its planned solar cell production from a phased PERC to TOPCon, state-of-the-art 2.2 GW solar cell manufacturing.
The company will now focus on the production of high-efficiency G12R generation TOPCon cells at its facility in Kosi Kotwan. This decisive move positions Alpex Solar at the forefront of the technological evolution in the Indian solar manufacturing landscape.
This additional project cost of approximately Rs. 136 Crore, due to the upgraded TOPCon technology and enhanced capacity, will be met entirely through internal accruals. This new facility is designed to secure long-term profitability and avoid the disruptive costs of a future upgrade. The company will be among the nation’s first to produce these high-efficiency G12R cells, with the expansion executed in two phases: a 1.4 GW phase becoming operational in Q1 of FY26-27, followed by the remaining 800 MW within six months. This decisive move positions Alpex Solar at the forefront of India’s solar manufacturing landscape, ensuring its product offering meets accelerating global demand and aligning its output with its 3.6 GW module capacity and the upcoming ALMM List 2 mandate.

Operational and Financial Advantage:By adopting a direct-to-TOPCon strategy, Alpex Solar avoids the costly and disruptive need to later shut down the factory for a PERC-to-TOPCon upgrade. This preemptive action mitigates potential future revenue loss and factory downtime, safeguarding profitability and ensuring continuous operation.
Timeline and Market Readiness:Despite the substantial technology change, the project timeline remains largely unchanged, with trial production of 1.4 GW expected to commence in Q1 FY26-27 and the entire capacity of 2.2 GW TOPcon Solar cell would be fully functional during FY 26-27. This timing strategically aligns the company’s output with its ramping module capacity, which is set to reach 3.6 GW. This marks a nearly threefold increase from 81 GW in 2014. The growth is driven by rapid solar expansion, strong policy support, and India’s commitment to achieving 500 GW of renewables by 2030.
In Detail :India has achieved a remarkable milestone in its clean energy journey, becoming the world’s fourth-largest producer of renewable energy with an installed capacity of 257 gigawatts (GW). Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced the achievement, emphasizing India’s growing leadership in sustainable power generation and its global role in combating climate change.
The minister noted that India’s renewable capacity has nearly tripled since 2014, when it stood at just 81 GW. This sharp increase reflects the country’s sustained policy focus, strong investment environment, and technological innovation across solar, wind, biomass, and hydro power sectors. The achievement also demonstrates India’s commitment to long-term energy security and sustainability.
A major contributor to this success has been the exponential growth in solar power generation. India’s solar capacity now represents more than 50% of its total renewable energy portfolio, supported by large-scale projects, rooftop programs, and initiatives such as the PM-KUSUM Scheme for farmers. This expansion has transformed India into one of the fastest-growing solar markets globally.
Wind energy has also played a vital role in strengthening India’s renewable landscape. The country’s wind capacity now exceeds 46 GW, with major installations in states such as Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Ongoing hybrid projects that combine solar and wind are helping maximize land use and ensure round-the-clock clean power availability.
Minister Joshi highlighted that the government’s proactive policies—such as transparent bidding, production-linked incentives (PLI), and the National Green Hydrogen Mission—have accelerated investment in clean technologies. These frameworks have attracted both domestic and international developers, establishing India as a major hub for renewable energy manufacturing and project execution.
India’s renewable achievements also align with its broader environmental and economic goals. The expansion of renewables has reduced dependence on fossil fuels, cut emissions intensity, and created thousands of green jobs. It is also helping the nation move closer to its pledge of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
In addition to renewable generation, India is strengthening its energy storage infrastructure to support grid reliability. Investments in battery storage, pumped hydro, and smart grid systems are ensuring efficient integration of intermittent renewable power into the national grid, addressing challenges of variability and peak demand management.

Saudi Arabia Awards 3 Gw Of Solar In Sixth Renewables Tender RoundSPPC has awarded contracts for four new solar projects in Saudi Arabia with a combined capacity of 3 GW.
The project awards come within the framework of the sixth phase of the country’s National Renewable Energy Program, which is supervised by the Saudi Ministry of Energy. The procurement exercise began with a tender in September 2024.
The sixth-round projects include the 1.4 GW Najran solar energy project, in the Najran region of southern Saudi Arabia.
It will be developed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) at an LCOE of $0.0110/kWh, representing the second-lowest LCOE generation for solar globally to date. The record is currently held by the Shuaiba 1 solar project, a 600 MW site in Saudi Arabia that was awarded in a 2021 tender.
Masdar has also won the 600 MW Ad Darb Solar PV IPP plant, in Jazan province of southeastern Saudi Arabia, at an LCOE of $0.0136/kWh.
The newly signed projects also features the 600 MW Samtah Solar PV IPP Plant in the Jazan province, awarded to a consortium of SPPC and EDF Power Solutions International at an LCOE of $0.0149/kWh.
Meanwhile, a consortium consisting of TotalEnergies and Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company has been selected to develop the 400 MW Sufun Solar PV IPP Plant, located in the Hail province in north-central Saudi Arabia, at an LCOE of $0.0151/kWh.
SPPC also signed an agreement for a 1.5 GW wind project alongside the four solar sites. According to data on the company’s website, 43.2 GW of renewables projects have been signed across the six rounds of Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy program, including 12.3 GW already connected to the grid. By the end of 2025, the total capacity tendered for is expected to reach 64 GW.
In September, SPPC announced a request for qualification for 3.1 GW of solar capacity across four projects in the seventh round of the country’s renewable energy tender program.

1 Gw Rtc Renewable Project In Uae Commences ConstructionConstruction has commenced on a large-scale round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy project in the UAE, being developed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). The project consists of a 5.2 GW solar plant with a 19 GWh battery energy storage system, capable of delivering 1 GW of continuous renewable power. It aims to address renewable intermittency and deliver gigascale baseload power at a globally competitive tariff.
The project represents a total investment of more than AED 22 billion and is expected to become operational by 2027. It will create over 10,000 jobs and support the establishment of new manufacturing units. Once operational, it will help offset nearly 5.7 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Furthermore, the project incorporates advanced features such as virtual power plant systems, grid-forming and black start capabilities, AI-based forecasting and intelligent dispatch.
Earlier this month, EWEC awarded the contract for the 1.5 GW AC Khazna solar project to ENGIE and Masdar, followed by the signing of a power purchase agreement between EWEC and the developers. Under the agreement, ENGIE and Masdar will design, finance, construct, and operate the plant near Al Khazna in Abu Dhabi, with EWEC paying only for the net energy supplied to the grid.

Tennet To Grant Grid Access To 6 Gw Of Dutch Battery ProjectsFrom ESS News
Earlier this year, Tennet’s large-scale introduction of time-dependent transmission rights (TDTR) contracts in the Netherlands offered a glimmer of hope to more than 70 GW of customers, mainly large-scale battery energy storage projects, currently stuck in the grid connection queue. According to the latest information, the lion’s share of the newly unlocked grid capacity will be allocated to batttery storage.
The Dutch transmission system operator said that up to 9.1 GW of capacity is available on the high-voltage grid during off-peak hours – capacity that could be effectively utilized through TDTRs.
TDTR give customers connected to the TenneT high-voltage grid the right to transport for a fixed number of hours per year, at least 85% of the time.

Spain Provisionally Awards €839 Million To 11 Gwh Of Energy Storage ProjectsFrom ESS News
Spain’s Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía (IDAE) has issued a provisional funding proposal for the country’s first call for innovative energy storage projects, co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021–2027 budget.
The call, launched in May, allocated €839.7 million ($977.3 million) – 20% more than initially planned – with only about €59,000 remaining unawarded. Developers have pledged €1.99 billion in total investment for 144 projects representing 2.61 GW and 11.14 GWh of capacity.
Battery energy storage systems accounted for 124 of the selected projects, while 17 involved thermal or power-to-heat storage and three were pumped hydro sites.
