The Haryana Government has amended the Haryana Building Code 2017 to make electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure mandatory in new residential and non-residential buildings with parking facilities for at least 10 cars.

Under the revised provisions, residential developments, including group housing societies, cooperative housing projects and complexes managed by resident welfare associations, will be required to provide one EV charging spot for every five parking spaces. Commercial and other non-residential buildings, such as malls, hotels and office complexes, will have to provide one charging station for every three parking spaces. The revised code also allows charging stations in basement and stilt parking areas, excludes EV charging infrastructure from floor area ratio calculations, and permits apartment owners and allottees in existing buildings to install charging facilities in designated parking spaces, subject to the required approvals and safety clearances.
