powerplantConstruction and infrastructure contractor DT Infrastructure has been awarded the contract to deliver the 75 megawatt (MW) Jinbi Solar Farm in the Pilbara region of Western Australia (WA).
The project, being developed by Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation, will be built on Yindjibarndi Ngurra, approximately 56 kilometres south of Karratha, and will comprise around 160,000 solar panels once complete.
When operational, the Jinbi Solar Farm will connect into Rio Tinto’s regional power network, supplying renewable electricity to support the mining giant’s Pilbara operations and broader emissions reduction strategy.
John Anderson, Chief Executive Officer at DT Infrastructure said the project represents a significant addition to the company’s growing renewable energy portfolio while contributing to long-term infrastructure development in the Pilbara.
“We are proud to partner with YEC on this landmark initiative,” Anderson said.
“This project is not only a vital addition to our renewable energy pipeline but also a testament to our commitment to the Pilbara’s future infrastructure.”
Anderson says the project also reflects increasing momentum behind Indigenous-led renewable energy development across Australia.
“Partnering with one of Australia’s largest Indigenous-led renewable energy initiatives allows us to support YEC in delivering meaningful, long-term outcomes for the Yindjibarndi community,” he said.
The Jinbi Solar Farm forms part of YEC’s broader Chichester Range and Eastern Development Zone renewable energy hubs, which collectively support more than 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of planned wind, solar and battery storage capacity across the Pilbara.
Craig Ricato, Chief Executive Officer of YEC, shared that appointing DT Infrastructure is an important milestone as the organisation progresses its long-term renewable energy ambitions.
YEC, established in 2023, is targeting the development of up to 3 GW of renewable energy capacity across approximately 13,000 square kilometres of Yindjibarndi Ngurra.
Mobilisation for the Jinbi Solar Farm is scheduled to commence in 2026, with project completion expected in early 2028.
