State-owned petroleum company QatarEnergy has picked Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group to build the 2 GW Dukhan solar power project.
An agreement for the construction of the project, to be located 80 kilometers west of Doha, was signed between the two parties earlier this week. Samsung C&T has said that the project is the largest solar power plant ever to be built by a Korean construction company.
The 2 GW Dukhan project, first announced in September 2024, is to be developed in two phases. The first phase is expected to add 1 GW of solar to the grid by the end of 2028, with the second phase scheduled for completion by mid-2029.
QatarEnergyâs solar portfolio features the 800 MW Al-Kharsaah solar power plant, which began operations in 2022, and an 875 MW project across Ras Laffan and Mesaieed, also built by Samsung C&T, which was switched on earlier this year.
âWhen completed, the Dukhan solar power plant, along with Al Kharsaah, Mesaieed and Ras Laffan solar power plants will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 4.7 million tons annually, while contributing up to 30% of Qatarâs total peak electricity demand,â said Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy.
Qatarâs cumulative solar capacity stood at 1,860 MW at the end of 2024, according to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The country has set a target of deploying 4 GW of renewables by the end of the decade.

Swissolar says PV deployment in Switzerland will likely average 1.5 GW a year through 2027 as the industry adjusts to policy uncertainty and lower feed-in tariffs. It presented three scenarios in its âSolar Monitor 2025â report outlining possible market developments and urging policymakers to sustain steady photovoltaic expansion.
The industry association expects around 1.5 GW of new photovoltaic capacity to be installed in Switzerland this year, down from roughly 2 GW in 2023 and 2024, which marked record growth. Swissolar President JĂźrg Grossen said maintaining installations at 1.5 GW annually would be sufficient to meet the nationâs 2050 climate targets.
The âSolar Monitor 2025â report indicates that new systems are already influencing the electricity market. For 2025, Swissolar projected solar power generation above 8 TWh, covering about 14% of annual consumption. âThe total amount of solar power generated will be equivalent to that of a nuclear power plant,â Grossen said at a media briefing this week.
Swissolar Chief Executive Matthias Egli described the reportâs three scenarios. The âmedium scenarioâ foresees photovoltaic additions of 1.5 GW in both 2026 and 2027, rising to 1.8 GW by 2030. The âbraking scenarioâ projects 1.2 GW by 2030, while the âexpress scenarioâ anticipates 2.7 GW, depending on policy and market conditions.
âElectricity is a penny-pinching business,â Grossen said, citing uncertainty in the PV market. âCurrently, thereâs a lot of uncertainty. The new photovoltaic models havenât yet taken hold.â He attributed this partly to low feed-in tariffs and an unclear demand outlook, including the pending blackout initiative that could lift the ban on new nuclear power plants and further unsettle investment prospects.
Prices are declining across all segments and system sizes. Most new installations remain rooftop systems, while agrivoltaics, alpine power plants, and infrastructure projects contribute marginally to annual output.
Despite these challenges, Swissolar highlighted a number of positive trends. Photovoltaics and hydropower remain a âdream teamâ for stable electricity supply, and battery storage deployment is increasing, the association said. It plans to publish its first comprehensive storage report in spring 2026, forecasting battery capacity of 1.25 GWh by the end of 2025 â up about 50% from 2024.
Switzerlandâs 8 GW of installed PV capacity is already influencing wholesale electricity prices, particularly during summer. Swissolar said flexibility measures such as battery storage and shared solar models â including Zero Energy Communities (ZEV) and Local Energy Communities (LEG) â could mitigate price drops and grid strain. It urged the Federal Council to adjust network-charge regulations to promote shared use and reduce grid-expansion needs.
Swissolar said it is also optimistic about the rollout of dynamic electricity tariffs by six distribution network operators next year and continues to advocate broader adoption of energy management systems.

Opinion â Paradigm Shift Of IndiaâS Renewable Energy Additions Surge 123% To 20.1 Gw In Fy26 And Its ImpactIndiaâs renewable energy sector has just hit a turning point. Between April and August 2025, the country added a record 20.1 gigawatts (GW) of renewable power capacity, a 123 percent increase compared to the same period last year, when additions stood at just 9 GW. According to data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and market observers like ICRA, this pace positions India to cross 35 GW of new capacity by the end of FY26, the highest annual addition in its clean-energy history.
This isnât just a statistical surge. It signals a deeper industrial and policy transformation, a paradigm shift in how India is generating, managing, and investing in its energy future.
For one, the pipeline of commissioned and near-ready projects is at its healthiest in years. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has identified more than 140 GW of projects in various stages of execution, much of it solar and hybrid (solar-plus-wind). Developers rushed to complete projects before the inter-state transmission charge waiver expired on June 30, 2025 pushing a flood of installations into the first half of FY26.
Simultaneously, module prices dropped to historic lows. In August 2025, imported N-type solar modules were trading around 8â9 US cents per watt, down almost 40 percent year-on-year. This cost compression, combined with strong tender pipelines, made 2025â26 the most competitive year yet for solar power deployment in India.
The rise in corporate demand has also played a crucial role. Indiaâs commercial and industrial (C&I) sector responsible for over 50 percent of electricity consumption is pivoting aggressively towards renewable procurement, driven by decarbonisation commitments and the economics of lower tariffs.
This record addition is not merely about more solar panels and wind turbines. It marks a broader industrial realignment that could redefine Indiaâs clean-energy trajectory.
Energy Security and Decentralisation â For a country still importing nearly 85 percent of its oil and 50 percent of its gas, expanding renewables directly translates into strategic independence. With every gigawatt added, India cuts fossil-fuel exposure and builds distributed power networks that are more resilient to global shocks.
Manufacturing and Jobs â A sustained 30â35 GW annual installation rate will demand a parallel surge in domestic manufacturing. The governmentâs Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for high-efficiency solar modules worth âš 24,000 crore has already catalysed expansions. If wafer, ingot, and polysilicon capacities come online as planned, the next two years could generate tens of thousands of skilled jobs.
Investment Confidence â The 123 percent jump in additions sends a clear market signal: Indiaâs clean-energy build-out is accelerating sustainably. Analysts estimate that FY26 alone could attract $20â25 billion in renewable investments, up from about $11 billion in FY25. Institutional investors such as CPP Investments, GIC, and Brookfield have already increased allocations toward Indian solar and hybrid projects, reflecting renewed confidence in project viability.
Global and Climate Leadership â On the diplomatic front, this performance strengthens Indiaâs credibility. It demonstrates that a developing economy can expand renewables rapidly without compromising growth. With the 2028 G20 climate review ahead, Indiaâs progress could position it as a case study in scalable, inclusive green transition.
While FY26âs surge is impressive, sustaining such pace will test both policy and infrastructure. The first challenge lies in transmission readiness. The Green Energy Corridor and ISTS network need continuous expansion to absorb large renewable inflows. The CEA warns that delays in evacuation lines could bottleneck 25â30 GW of upcoming capacity.
The second issue is project execution. Land acquisition, PPA approvals, and state-level clearances still slow down rollouts. In fact, despite record capacity additions, new tendering fell to just 3.4 GW in the first half of FY26 a sign that developers are still digesting existing pipelines. Finally, cost volatility in global commodities and potential trade measures (such as duties on imported modules) could affect the economics of upcoming projects.
Beyond gigawatts and grids, this momentum is redefining Indiaâs economic landscape. States such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka already renewable leaders are seeing a cascade of local benefits: new industrial parks, upgraded logistics, and ancillary manufacturing clusters. The cascading effects extend to battery storage, green hydrogen, and EV integration sectors now aligning with Indiaâs renewable surge. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has already floated hybrid tenders coupling 1.5 GW of solar and 1 GWh of storage, marking the beginning of a new storage-driven grid era.
Indiaâs energy story has moved beyond ambition to acceleration. A 123 percent jump in capacity additions is not just a headline, itâs a signal of structural maturity, industrial resilience, and policy coherence. If the country sustains this trajectory through FY26 and FY27, it could well emerge as the worldâs third-largest market for renewable deployment, behind only China and the United States.

Iea Warns Global Solar Growth May Plateau At 540 Gw Annually To 2035Global solar capacity additions are expected to average 540 GW through to 2035, according to the latest report by the IEA.
The IEA World Energy Outlook 2025 report predicts that renewables will grow faster than any other major energy source across all growth scenarios, with the continued trajectory led by the deployment of solar.
But it adds that under its Current Policies Scenario (CPS), which accounts for policies and regulations already in place, solarâs global annual additions will stall at around levels first seen in 2024, largely due to mounting integration challenges.
Renewables, led by solar, are still projected to go from one third of global power generation in 2024 to just under half by 2035 under the CPS scenario, while coal remains the largest single source of global power generation over the next ten years.Â
China is expected to hold its position as the largest market for renewables, accounting for 45% to 60% of global deployment over the next ten years across all of IEAâs growth scenarios, while also remaining the largest manufacturer of most renewable energy technologies.
IEAâs report suggests repowering programmes for solar would enable energy outputs to increase further. The agency says an accelerated repowering schedule could lead to a substantial increase in the size of the solar PV panel market, by benefiting from the current oversupply of solar products and allowing installations to benefit from panels that are 40% more efficient that those that entered the market in 2010.
âAn accelerated repowering schedule would raise the average performance of the solar PV fleet, due to faster stock turnover and uptake of higher efficiency panels,â the report explains. âFor example, a 2% absolute increase in the average efficiency of a panel would result in over 10% higher electricity output from each panel with the same rated capacity. By 2035, that would mean up to 15% higher electricity output from solar PV globally.â
Elsewhere in the report, IEA says energy market dynamics are increasingly shaped by a group of emerging countries, led by India and Southeast Asia and joined by countries in the Middle East, Latin America and Africa. The watchdog describes these countries as âtaking up the baton from Chinaâ but points out that none will come close to replicating Chinaâs energy trajectory alone.
By 2035, 80% of energy consumption growth occurs in regions with high-quality solar irradiation, representing a sharp contrast with the past decade when medium- to low-solar regions drove half of energy consumption growth.
âThese conditions provide an opportunity to harness abundant solar resources that should translate into higher average capacity factors for solar PV than currently registered, and potentially lower average generation costs,â the report says.
Elsewhere, a chapter focused on electricity access highlights that countries with large remaining access gaps are facing high financing costs, heavy debt burdens and shrinking development budgets. Progress on electrification is currently slower than it was pre-pandemic, IEA adds, meaning current trajectories fall short of the pace required to deliver universal access over the next decade and even by mid-century.
In October, IEA lowered its forecast for solar growth over the second half of this decade, which it attributed to policy changes in China and the United States.

Italyâs MASE has released updated results from the countryâs first agrivoltaic tender, confirming that 747 projects with a combined capacity of 2 GW have been selected.
In July, the ministry reported 536 projects totaling 1.59 GW.
Of the selected projects, 363 exceed 1 MW, representing a combined capacity of 1.76 GW and requiring a total budget of âŹ957.1 million. Another 384 smaller projects under 1 MW will add 253 MW at a cost of âŹ141.8 million.
The tender is expected to allocate a total of âŹ1.7 billion, financed through the European Unionâs National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), created in 2021 to support economic recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Projects awarded under the program will receive subsidies covering up to 40% of eligible costs, along with a guaranteed purchase price for net electricity supplied to the grid.
The ministry said the results mark a key milestone for integrating renewable power with agricultural land use while accelerating Italyâs clean energy targets under the European Green Deal.

Indonesia Expected To Reach 23.2 Gw Of Solar By 2035Indonesiaâs cumulative solar capacity is forecast to reach 23.2 GW by 2035, according to figures published by London-based data analytics and consulting company GlobalData.
The consultancyâs latest report expects Indonesia to surpass 1 GW of installed solar by the end of this year, hitting 1.5 GW. While solar currently sits as the third largest energy source in Indonesiaâs renewable power market, behind geothermal and biopower sources, it is forecast to become the largest renewable energy source by 2028, when it is projected to reach 4.7 GW.
By the end of the decade, cumulative solar capacity is expected to hit 9.1 GW. This growth trajectory will continue to accelerate through the early 2030s, surpassing 20 GW in 2034, ahead of reaching 23.2 GW in 2035.
GlobalData says Indonesiaâs surge in solar installations over the next ten years will be driven by the expansion of floating and utility-scale projects, as well as rooftop solar programs that are supported by feed-in mechanisms and updated net-metering regulations.
Indonesiaâs total renewable power capacity is projected to reach 38.1 GW by 2035, up from 8.4 GW in 2024, equivalent to a compound annual growth rate of 14.7% between 2024 to 2035.
Mohammed Ziauddin, power analyst at GlobalData, explained that Indonesiaâs renewables expansion is being catalyzed by frameworks including the Just Energy Transition Partnership, which targets 44% renewable electricity by 2030, alongside fiscal and investment incentives.
Despite the strong renewables growth forecast, Indonesiaâs power system is expected to remain heavily reliant on thermal sources through to 2035. Coal-fire capacity is expected to rise from 55.6 GW in 2024 to 61.4 GW in 2035, supported by existing contracts and state-owned infrastructure. Similarly, gas-fired capacity is set to increase from 29.1 GW in 2024 to 36 GW in 2035, in order to provide flexibility and backup for renewables.Â
With Indonesia still reliant on isolated island grids, Ziauddin added that the country will require focus on expanding cross-island transmission and deploying digital grid systems to support the scaling of renewables.
âIndonesiaâs power system is entering a dual-track phase of expansion, scaling renewables while retaining thermal stability,â he concluded. âWith solar PV and wind onshore leading growth, supported by geothermal development and grid modernization, the country is progressively building a more diversified and secure energy mix through 2035 and beyond.â
Indonesiaâs National Energy Policy is aiming to reach up to 108.7 GW of solar capacity by 2060. Earlier this year, the Indonesian government launched an initiative to deploy 100 GW of solar, consisting of plans for 80 GW of 1 MW solar minigrids with storage, alongside 20 GW of centralized solar power plants.Â

Frv Submits 1.8 Gw Of Bess And Solar Projects To UkâS Gate 2 Window Of NesoâS Connection Reform ProcessThe projects are seeking advanced connection dates pre-2030, with proposed connection dates through 2026 to 2029.
The portfolio includes both solar plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS), consolidating FRVâs role as one of the key players in the UK energy sector. Amongst the most prominent projects are the Bicker Fen (400 MW), Stocking Pelham (400 MW), Stow Manor (400 MW), Ansty (200 MW) and Maes Melin (200 MW) BESS projects.  In addition, the Malice Farm project will combine 50 MW solar generation with storage, representing a further step in the integration of hybrid and flexible solutions. India Solidifies Solar Leadership: Achieves 130 Gw Total Installed Capacity, Adding 32 Gw In 2025India has made strong progress in the renewable energy sector, with solar power becoming the leading force in this shift. By the end of October 2025, the country had installed 129,923.82 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity. This figure represents over 64.87 percent of the total renewable energy capacity in India, excluding large hydro projects. The growth has been driven by steadily falling solar panel prices, improvements in technology, sustained government policies, and rising public awareness of clean energy.
In the first ten months of 2025 (January to October), India added 32,059.10 MW of new solar capacity. In October alone, 2,591.53 MW of solar capacity was added, a 2.04 per cent increase compared to the previous month. Wind energy growth was also positive, with 476.12 MW added in October. These additions show the countryâs commitment to scaling up renewable power and reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
As of October 2025, the cumulative renewable energy capacity in India (excluding large hydro) stood at 200.293 gigawatts (GW). Out of this, solar and wind together accounted for about 183.523 GW, which is more than 91.63 percent of the total non-large hydro renewable mix. Among the solar segment, ground-mounted solar systems remain dominant with 98.72 GW installed. Rooftop solar systems have reached 22.42 GW, showing increasing adoption among households, industries, and commercial establishments. Solar-wind hybrid projects are also becoming more common, with a capacity of 3.33 GW, helping improve land use and transmission efficiency. In addition, off-grid solar systemsâcovering solar lanterns, water pumps for agriculture, mini-gridsâhave exceeded 5.45 GW, bringing more reliable clean power access to rural parts of the country and helping replace diesel-based generation.
Government-led measures have played a key role in supporting this growth. The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has promoted domestic manufacture of solar equipment, reducing dependence on imports. The Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) policy was reintroduced on 1 April 2024, mandating that government-supported projects use only certified solar modules. From 1 June 2026, the rule will extend to solar PV cells as well, boosting efficiency and performance standards.
There are also broader policy improvements: for example, India reduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on solar PV modules and wind turbine generators from 12 percent to 5 percent.
 This tax reduction is expected to lower plant capital costs and encourage even faster deployment of renewables. On the deployment front, India installed about 29.5 GW of solar capacity in the first three quarters of 2025, a year-on-year increase of around 70 percent.
Despite this strong growth and positive outlook, challenges remain. One major challenge is land acquisition for large solar parks, which is becoming more difficult in many regions. Grid integration of variable solar power also needs improvement, with better transmission infrastructure and balancing technologies required. Additionally, while manufacturing capacity is expanding, global trade dynamics and supply-chain issues pose risks. For example, higher import duties in the U.S. have redirected some module supplier interest to India, increasing availability and reducing panel pricesâbut this also raises questions about export markets and global competition.
Overall, India continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in renewable energy. The pace of solar deployment, policy support, growing manufacturing base, and increasing adoption across rooftops, ground-mounted systems, and off-grid solutions paint a very promising picture. For the country to meet its 500 GW non-fossil installed energy capacity target by 2030, the continued momentum will be essential, along with addressing the remaining bottlenecks.

Boviet Solar Makes Progress On 3.0 Gw Pv Cell Factory In Greenville, North CarolinaConstruction of the PV Cell Facility began in January 2025, and the exterior build-out has been completed on schedule. Representing Phase II of Boviet Solarâs North American manufacturing strategy, the Greenville PV Cell Factory will produce advanced, high-efficiency PV cells to meet the growing demand for Made-in-USA solar products.
Once fully operational, the facility will deliver an annual production capacity of 3.0 GW, complementing the companyâs adjacent 3.0 GW PV Module Factory, which successfully commenced mass production in Q1 2025.
The Greenville PV Cell Facility is expected to be completed and begin mass production in the second half of 2026, creating more than 900 skilled local jobs and ensuring a reliable domestic supply of high-performance PV cells for both U.S. and global markets.
âWe are excited to see steady progress on our Greenville PV Cell Factory project,â said Marco Marquez, General Manager of Manufacturing Operations at Boviet Solar USA.

Together, these two facilities will establish a fully integrated U.S. manufacturing hub, capable of producing both PV cells and PV modules domestically, strengthening the American solar supply chain and providing customers with high-performance, Made-in-USA products.

, reveals that wind and solar will remain the main growth drivers of renewable energy development in the country. Onshore wind capacity is projected to increase from 22.9 GW in 2024 to 36 GW by 2035, while offshore wind will expand rapidly from 1.5 GW to 10.7 GW, driven by large scale projects in Normandy and Brittany, supported through Contracts for Difference (CfD) auctions and the governmentâs offshore acceleration strategy.
Solar PV is also set for strong expansion, growing from 30.5 GW in 2024 to 111.2 GW by 2035, aided by rooftop programmes, agrivoltaic projects, and regional energy community initiatives. Biopower and small hydropower will continue to contribute to renewable diversification, backed by the National Hydropower Strategy, which promotes modernisation and flexibility upgrades in existing facilities.
Mohammed Ziauddin, Power Analyst at GlobalData, commented: âWhile nuclear power continues to be the cornerstone of Franceâs low carbon electricity system, capacity growth over the forecast period remains limited, increasing marginally from 61.4 GW in 2024 to 63 GW by 2035. The Grand CarĂŠnage programme aimed at extending reactor lifetimes, along with plans for six new EPR2 reactors, will ensure long term energy security alongside expanding renewables.â
Franceâs updated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP 2024) and Multiannual Energy Plan (PPE) provide a clear framework to accelerate clean energy deployment. Policy measures such as the shift from feed-in tariffs to CfDs, the National Hydrogen Strategy backed by âŹ7 billion (US$8.3 billion) in funding, and grid upgrades led by RTE are enhancing investor confidence and system flexibility.
However, the countryâs power sector continues to face structural challenges, including permitting delays, local opposition to onshore wind, and grid bottlenecks in renewable rich regions like Occitanie and Nouvelle Aquitaine. Curtailment levels have risen, reflecting the need for faster infrastructure development and stronger co-ordination between grid expansion and renewable deployment.

We Energies Plans Nearly 3 Gw Grid ExpansionUSA, Wisconsin: We Energies has asked state regulators to approve a multi-billion-dollar plan to expand Wisconsinâs electric grid by nearly 3Â GW, citing a rapid rise in energy demand from data centers and industrial growth.
The proposal includes ownership stakes in seven solar projects with a combined capacity of more than 1.1Â GW, a 180-MW battery storage facility, and two new natural gas plants totaling 1.4Â GW. The solar facilities would feed the grid daily, while the gas plants would supply backup power during peak demand periods.
President Mike Hooper said the projects would support grid reliability, create construction and high-tech jobs, and ensure that data center costs are not passed to other customers. The utilityâs âcustomer protection planâ would require large users to fund the power plants and distribution systems that serve them.
Environmental advocates have questioned whether expanding fossil-fuel generation aligns with Wisconsinâs long-term climate goals, while others expressed concern that system expansion could raise costs for residential customers.
We Energiesâ filings with the state Public Service Commission also include plans to modernise existing facilities in Port Washington and Oak Creek to increase efficiency and operational flexibility.
The utility aims to bring the solar projects online by 2028â2029 and the new gas facilities by the end of 2029. If approved, the initiative would represent one of the largest generation investments in the companyâs history, reflecting the growing energy demand from AI-driven data centers across the Midwest.
