The Welsh Government has announced major funding for a number of integrated transport schemes across the Caerphilly area.

More than £115million of funding has been awarded to local authorities across Wales as part of Welsh Government’s Regional Transport Fund (2026 to 2027). Caerphilly county borough council said it welcomed the funding announcement.

A major new transport interchange has been given the green light in Caerphilly town centre, with the existing railway and bus stations set to be transformed into a new flagship transport hub. Other schemes include road safety improvements outside Markham Primary School, investment in Active Travel schemes across the county borough and funding for 30mph exceptions.

Welsh Government has identified Caerphilly as a key town centre and recognises its strategic importance in the heart of the South Wales valleys.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Caerphilly Council said: “We welcome the £4m award from Welsh Government through the Welsh Governments Regional Transport Plan for the Caerphilly Interchange. The Caerphilly Interchange, along with the A469, was one of two priorities that CCBC put forward to the Cardiff Capital Region for investment. We announced in November 2025 that we will be ensuring the A469 gets re-built, so the Council will be taking this on. Continued engagement with Welsh Government will take place on the A469, and I look forward to keeping residents updated”.
