The Vietnamese city of Da Nang has approved a privately funded 103 km commuter rail line connecting the city centre, the airport, Hoi An, Tam Ky and the Chu Lai Economic Zone. The city gave its approval to the proposal for the project, which is planned in two phases. Financing for the project will be provided by the Vietnamese conglomerate Thaco Group, which is investing around EUR 8.6 billion (VND 265.9 trillion) in the project. The first section spanning 30.2 km connects the city centre with Da Nang International Airport and Hoi An. The second section covering 73.6 km runs from Hoi An to Chu Lai. From central Da Nang, travel times of 20 minutes to the airport and 40 minutes to Chu Lai are anticipated. According to the project proposal, Thaco subsidiary Dai Quang Minh is scheduled to start construction in the first quarter of 2027. The start of passenger operations is slated for 2032. For rolling stock and railway systems, Thaco is collaborating with Hyundai Rotem from South Korea.
