Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority
(MARTA) has completed upgrades to infrastructure and passenger amenities at seven stations. The improvements are part of a $1 billion multi-decade improvement program launched in 2021.
Work is complete at the Brookhaven, College Park, Five Points, Garnett, Indian Creek, Peachtree Center, Vine City and Airport stations, with work continuing at the Arts Center, Bankhead, East Lake, H.E. Holmes and Lenox stations, MARTA officials said in a press release.
General improvements include new flooring, graffiti-resistant wall surfaces, lighting upgrades, deep cleaning, new operator booths and restrooms, landscaping and passenger amenities. Structural improvements include pedestrian bridges at East Lake and Indian Creek and new elevators at Airport and East Lake stations.
“Our systemwide Station Rehabilitation Program is focused on creating safer and cleaner rail stations, and more reliable service for our customers,” said MARTA Interim General Manager and CEO Jonathan Hunt. “MARTA and its construction partners have been working to complete these upgrades prior to World Cup, but the improved service and experience will serve customers and the Atlanta region long after the crowds leave.”
Construction will pause during Atlanta’s hosting of FIFA World Cup matches between June 15 and July 15.
