The FS Italiane Group continues to expand its international passenger transport operations through significant investments, having allocated EUR 292 million to international rail passenger transport last year. Of this amount, 53% was directed toward markets such as Germany, France, Spain, Greece, and the United Kingdom, with the remaining 47% going to the Netherlands.

To support international development, in 2025 the FS Group consolidated its operational structure through FS International, dedicated to passenger transport, and FS Logistix, focused on logistics and rail freight transport. This organization aims to integrate services, from high-speed trains to regional transport and public road transport, and to develop a European logistics chain connected to international corridors.

In international markets, 2025 confirms accelerated growth. International passenger transport in the rail segment reached approximately 11.7 billion passenger-km, up 2.1% from 2024. The high-speed segment made the largest contribution, reaching 4.964 billion passenger-km, up 10.4%, and 15.548 million train-km, a 13% increase compared to the previous year.

Key developments include the resumption of the Milan–Paris high-speed link, suspended since 2023 due to a landslide in the Maurienne Valley; the launch of new routes operated by Trenitalia France between Paris and Marseille; and the introduction of a EuroCity connection between Pisa and Zurich.

In the freight sector, technical investments reached EUR 322 million, both in Italy and abroad. TX Logistik, active in Germany, plays a significant role, accounting for approximately 30% of total investments in this sector.

Operating revenue reached EUR 2.533 billion, up 19.6%; EBITDA rose to EUR 221 million, an increase of +97.3%; and EBIT improved significantly, reaching EUR -3 million, compared to EUR -111 million in 2024. The revenue growth was driven by increased traffic revenue, amounting to EUR 207 million, and service contract revenue, amounting to EUR 215 million, with significant contributions from Netinera, Qbuzz, Trenitalia France, and Hellenic Train, a Greek passenger and freight rail operator acquired by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) in 2017 as part of the privatization of Greece’s rail sector.

Through the resumption of key connections, the expansion of services in France, the development of public transport in the Netherlands, and the strengthening of the international freight segment, 2025 marks an important milestone for the FS Group in consolidating its position in foreign markets.

The company’s strategy aims to develop mobility and logistics across Europe through integrated and efficient services.
