railwayThe transport ministries of Turkey, Jordan, and Syria have signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen connections in the north-south corridor. The focus is on expanding cross-border rail services, removing obstacles for transport companies, and reducing transit fees and additional costs. A key topic was the reactivation of the Hejaz Railway. The ministries also discussed new railway links between the three countries, built to current standards. According to reports from the region, implementation of the agreements will begin immediately and will continue for three years with regular progress reviews. In addition, the three states intend to treat their port infrastructure as an integrated logistics chain. This includes Turkish and Syrian Mediterranean ports, as well as Jordan's access to the Red Sea via Aqaba. The aim is to create a corridor from the Mediterranean via Aqaba to further connections towards the Arabian Peninsula, Europe, and Central Asia. According to the Turkish transport minister, technical delegations will travel to Saudi Arabia next week to discuss the next phase of development.
