Odisha, India’s largest mineral-bearing state, has prepared a tentative list of 35 mineral blocks that could be put up for auction in 2026, aligning with the Centre’s push for a more predictable and transparent mineral supply pipeline to support faster industrial growth.
The state’s Steel and Mines Department will hold a meeting to assess the suitability of the blocks, their exploration status, and auction readiness, and to finalise an annual auction calendar.
The list shared via an official letter and proposed by Odisha’s Directorate of Mines and Geology includes blocks across iron ore, bauxite, limestone, manganese, dolomite, along with a copper block and a gold deposit.
Among iron ore-bearing areas cited are blocks in Kendujhar/Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj, including Tehrai (iron ore & manganese), Kasia West, Gadadharpur and Suleipat, along with multiple iron-and-manganese combinations.
The gold deposit mentioned (Jaldiha block in Keonjhar) has been explored by GSI up to G2 level.
