HCLTech recently announced plans to invest up to ₹3,500 crore to establish AI-ready full-stack data centres across India, with an initial capacity of 50 MW, as enterprises increasingly shift from legacy infrastructure to advanced AI-powered computing solutions.

The investment, approved by the company's board, marks HCLTech's entry into the AI data centre business, aimed at meeting the growing demand for integrated AI infrastructure and services.

Announcing the company's quarterly results, HCLTech Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer C Vijayakumar said the company would leverage its expertise in AI data centre design alongside its software portfolio to build end-to-end AI infrastructure offerings.

"We will combine our capabilities across AI data centre design, as well as our software portfolio with the new AI data centre business for this. In this regard, we will make a strategic investment, up to ₹3,500 crore, with the potential to scale to 50 MW of capacity," Vijayakumar said.

He added that HCLTech is in discussions with several prospective customers and is "very close" to securing its first client, with a portion of the planned capacity already expected to be committed.
