Mitie Wins 5-Year Ground Maintenance Contract At Edinburgh Airport
Mitie has secured a five-year contract to handle ground maintenance at Edinburgh Airport, which serves over 14 million passengers annually. The contract includes landscaping tasks such as lawn care, tree and shrub maintenance, litter collection, and weed control across the airport's extensive grounds. Additionally, Mitie will provide winter maintenance services, including gritting car parks, walkways, and roads. A key focus of the contract is sustainability, with plans to use more environmentally friendly methods, such as white marine salt for gritting and eliminating plastic use. Mitie aims to enhance biodiversity by introducing sustainable planting and wildflower areas. This contract reinforces Mitie’s role in the UK aviation sector, where they already offer various services at several major airports.

Terma And Kongsberg Aviation Maintenance Services Sign Teaming Agreement
Terma and Kongsberg Aviation Maintenance Services (KAMS) have executed a Teaming Agreement reflecting the companies’ plans to cooperate on military Aviation Maintenance Services (AMS) in Denmark. The high defense needs and increasing investments in the sector have made a closer Nordic defense cooperation a key priority for both governments and industry. The similarity of aircraft that Denmark and Norway are operating enable Terma and KAMS to cooperate and offer AMS in Denmark, complimenting the Danish Defence’ own capabilities. While Terma has a long history of cooperation with the Danish Defence, e.g. within the aeronautics domain, KAMS has extensive experience providing AMS as an embedded partner to the Norwegian Air Force. “Local competencies within aircraft maintenance services are important for ensuring operational readiness. Through our cooperation with KAMS, we believe we can support the Danish Defence within AMS by sharing best practices, insights, and investments between our two countries. Terma has extensive experience within service, support, and maintenance – for example from our radars that are placed across the globe - so we view AMS as a natural addition to the areas we are already specialized in,” states Steen Lynenskjold, Executive Vice President at Terma Group. Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace states that they are extremely pleased with this concrete step towards closer cooperation between the two companies. According to Kongsberg, the strengths, experience, and competence of KAMS and Terma will enable the team to provide effective and efficient maintenance services to the Danish Defence. “This cooperation reflects the commitment described in our company-level MOU to work closely together to provide defense systems, services, and capabilities in support of our customer needs. We continue to look for areas where our companies are stronger together and can provide better solutions based on this partnership,” says Pamela Willgohs, Senior Vice President of Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace.

Tehran Airport Gets New Security Scanners
On August 4, 2024, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Iran officially handed over an X-ray body scanner to the Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran. This event, attended by representatives from UNODC, the Drug Control Headquarters (DCHQ), and the Anti-Narcotics Police, is part of a broader effort to combat drug trafficking in Iran. UNODC Iran procured and installed three X-ray body scanners in three international airports, including Gorgan and Ahvaz, and provided specialized training for their use. These scanners are crucial for detecting narcotics concealed within the body, addressing the challenge posed by Iran's proximity to Afghanistan, a major drug production hub. Dr. Mahdi Javaheri from DCHQ expressed gratitude to UNODC for its ongoing support and emphasized the importance of continued assistance. This initiative is part of UNODC Iran's broader efforts under its "Border Management and Illicit Trafficking" program.
