Korkia has secured Technical Grid Connection Permits (Aviz Tehnic de Racordare, ATR) for its Alexandria portfolio of hybrid solar PV and battery energy storage projects located in Teleorman County, southern Romania.

The portfolio comprises three co-located solar and storage projects with a combined solar PV capacity of 320 MW and a battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity of 303 MW. The projects are expected to begin power injection as early as 2028 and are on track to reach Ready-to-Build (RTB) status by the end of 2026.

The projects benefit from strong solar irradiation and favourable grid access conditions, including proximity to connection points, allowing integration without the need for additional transmission system reinforcements.

By securing ATRs under the current regulatory framework, the portfolio avoids the complexities of Romania’s upcoming grid connection reforms, which will introduce a competitive auction-based allocation system with stricter financial and development requirements.

In parallel, ATR approvals are expected soon for Korkia’s Iron Gates portfolio in Caraș-Severin County, which includes two hybrid projects with a total capacity of 268 MW solar PV and 250 MW BESS.

Romania continues to emerge as a key renewable energy market in Central and Eastern Europe, driven by increasing electricity demand, economic growth, and decarbonisation targets.

Korkia entered the Romanian market in 2024 through a partnership with Econous Green Energy and has since been expanding its project pipeline in the region.

The company’s global renewable energy portfolio includes 15 GW of mature and 9 GW of early-stage projects across Europe, North America, and South America, spanning solar, wind, and energy storage technologies.
