Dfccil Completes Successful Launch Of 110.5 Metre Rail Flyover Girder At Kalamboli On Wdfc Section

DFCCIL has achieved a major engineering milestone with the successful launch of its longest Rail Flyover girder at Kalamboli on the JNPT–Vaitarna section of WDFC. The 110.5-metre-long, 1,500-tonne steel structure showcases advanced planning and execution capabilities. The project strengthens freight connectivity and reinforces DFCCIL’s role in building world-class logistics infrastructure.

Introduction:

While the nation celebrated Republic Day with patriotic fervour, engineers and on-ground teams of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) marked the occasion with a historic engineering achievement at Kalamboli. Within the JNPT–Vaitarna section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), DFCCIL successfully launched a massive Open Web Steel Girder — the longest Rail Flyover (RFO) girder ever constructed by the organisation.

Record-Breaking Structure and Engineering Scale:

Measuring an impressive 110.5 metres in length and weighing approximately 1,500 tonnes, the steel girder stands as a testament to India’s growing capabilities in executing large-scale infrastructure projects. This milestone reflects DFCCIL’s strong commitment to delivering world-class freight corridors through innovation, meticulous planning, and the deployment of highly skilled manpower, reinforcing its role in strengthening the nation’s logistics framework.

Complex Execution Over Active Rail Tracks:

The operation was particularly challenging due to its technical complexity. The gigantic steel structure had to be radially shifted by 32 metres over an active Indian Railways track, a manoeuvre that required absolute precision, flawless coordination, and continuous monitoring to ensure safety and accuracy. Every movement, bolt placement, and instruction played a critical role in the successful launch, highlighting the precision-driven execution of the project teams.

Key Highlights of the Operation:

Leadership Presence and National Significance:

The milestone was witnessed by senior officials from DFCCIL’s Corporate Office, including Shri Sandesh Srivastava, Executive Director (Project), and Shri S.K. Negi, Consultant (Project Development), who commended the teams for their dedication, technical competence, and precision-led execution on site.

The achievement aligns symbolically with Republic Day — a day that honours India’s Constitution, its values, and its nation-builders — and reflects the quiet yet powerful contribution of engineers, designers, technicians, and workers who strengthen India’s logistics backbone one milestone at a time.

Strategic Importance of the JNPT–Vaitarna Section:

The JNPT–Vaitarna section is a critical segment of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor under the jurisdiction of the CGM/Mumbai Unit of DFCCIL. Once operational, the section will significantly enhance freight connectivity between India’s hinterland and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), reaffirming DFCCIL’s commitment to building modern, efficient, and globally competitive freight infrastructure.

Conclusion:

The successful launch of the longest Rail Flyover girder on Republic Day underscores DFCCIL’s engineering excellence and commitment to national development. As the JNPT–Vaitarna section advances, this milestone strengthens India’s freight infrastructure, supporting efficient logistics, economic growth, and the vision of a modern, connected nation.
