Kent County Council Launches New Weroam App To Help Gravesend Residents Get Active

Kent County Council (KCC) has launched WeRoam, a new free walking, wheeling and cycling app designed to help people in Gravesend build more movement into their everyday lives.

Developed in partnership with behaviour change experts Active AI, the six-month long pilot aims to encourage residents aged 16+ to swap short car journeys for healthier, active travel.

With inactivity on the rise nationally, KCC is committed to supporting residents to lead healthier lives. Short walking or wheeling trips are one of the simplest and most affordable ways to boost physical and mental wellbeing.

The app uses smart activity tracking, personalised prompts and community features to motivate users and make getting active easier and more enjoyable. Users can join or create groups, such as walking-to-school groups, workplace bicycle user groups or neighbourhood walking chats, making it easier to stay motivated and travel actively together.

The pilot is being delivered with support from Gravesend partners, including Gravesham Borough Council, Active Kent & Medway, the Gurdwara, One You Kent, Cyclopark, local retailers, Explore Kent, community groups and local volunteers.

An opening event was held at the Gravesend Cyclopark on 24 January, where many residents took part in free activities including, e‑bike taster sessions, Dr Bike services and bike‑marking.

Spencer Dixon, Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “WeRoam is about making active travel easy, social and enjoyable. Whether you’re walking to the shops or cycling to an appointment, these short journeys can make a huge difference to your health. We’re excited to see how Gravesend residents use the app and support each other to move more.

‘Importantly, the more people who use it during this pilot, the better evidence we’ll have to explore rolling WeRoam out across the whole of Kent.”
