The project is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 45.1 million. Officials from the corporation’s Bus Route Roads Department said construction has entered the final stage, with only limited deck-laying work remaining.

The bridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity for residents of Nolambur, Mogappair West, Vanagaram and Maduravoyal. At present, commuters in these areas depend on narrow river crossings to access Poonamallee High Road, resulting in frequent congestion at nearby junctions, particularly during peak hours.

Motorists travelling between the Poonamallee–Avadi stretch and the Ambattur–Mogappair belt currently face delays due to the absence of a continuous and high-capacity corridor. Once operational, the new four-lane bridge will provide a direct link between the two arterial roads, easing pressure on existing crossings and improving overall traffic flow.

GCC officials said the bridge has been designed to accommodate future traffic growth while adhering to flood-management and river-protection norms. Given the Cooum River’s history of flooding during heavy monsoon periods, the project incorporates river-training measures and reinforced embankments to enhance resilience and ensure long-term safety.
