Union Minister for Home and Cooperatives Amit Shah recently laid the foundation stone for a new seed research centre at the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO) campus in Kalol, Gujarat.
The centre will be operated by Bhartiya Beej Sahkari Samiti Ltd (BBSSL), a multi-state cooperative set up under the Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. BBSSL is promoted by major cooperatives including IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB, and NCDC.
Speaking at the event, which also marked the golden jubilee of IFFCOâs Kalol unit, Shah said the centre will focus on developing high-yield seeds that require less water and fertiliser while also preserving traditional seed varieties.
