The National Water Company (NWC) has initiated 30 new water and sanitary drainage projects in the Riyadh region, stretching over 1,955 kilometres, with an investment of nearly two billion Saudi Riyals.
These projects are part of NWC’s strategic efforts to improve infrastructure in the water and environmental services sectors and to expand service coverage for customers.
NWC revealed that 16 water projects have commenced in Riyadh city and various regional governorates. These projects cover areas including Al Taawun, Al Janadiriyah, Leban, Al-Diriyah, Dirab, and other parts of Al-Quwaiyah, Afif, Al-Dawadimi, Al-Muzahimiyah, Al-Reen, Al-Kharj, Hawta Bani Tamim, Al-Hariq, Al-Majma’a, Al-Zulfi, and Thadiq governorates, as well as Al-Ayyyinah and Al-Jubailah centres.
The network spans over 1,192 kilometres and includes 18 water reservoirs with a total capacity of nearly 85,000 m3 and pumping stations with a daily volume exceeding 247,000 m3, costing over one billion Saudi Riyals.
Additionally, NWC has embarked on 14 sewerage projects in Riyadh city and nearby governorates. These involve parts of Al-Munsiyah, Al-Mu’aizilah, Al-Hazm, Namar, and Al-Awali districts, with separate sewerage lines across various districts and parts of Al Zulfi, Al Ghatt, Shaqra, Muzahimiyah, Al-Kharj, and Houtat Bani Tamim, covering around 763 kilometres.
The projects also feature lifting stations with a capacity of 117,000 m3 per day, totalling more than 902 million Saudi Riyals.
NWC highlighted this initiative as a continuation of its previous announcements, including 46 projects in May 2024 worth over 1.6 billion Saudi Riyals and 20 projects in August 2024 valued at about one billion Saudi Riyals.
The company emphasised its commitment to strengthening the water distribution system, mitigating environmental impacts, and achieving water security and environmental balance in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals.
