EuroMaint, a subsidiary of the Spanish CAF Group providing railway maintenance services in the Nordic region, has signed new long-term contracts in Sweden and Norway, with a total estimated value of EUR 300 million.

The contracts cover maintenance services for regional passenger trains, freight locomotives, and vehicles used in railway infrastructure works. CAF states that the new agreements strengthen EuroMaint’s position in the Nordic market, where the company works with passenger operators, freight carriers, and infrastructure managers.

In Sweden, EuroMaint will provide maintenance for the Pågatågen fleet, the regional train service in the province of Skåne, in the south of the country.

The operator VR Sverige was selected by Skånetrafiken, the public transport authority in Skåne, to operate and maintain the Pågatågen regional services starting in December 2027. Under the agreement with VR Sverige, EuroMaint will be responsible for maintaining a fleet of 99 X61 regional trains for a period of 9 years.

The activities will focus on long-term planning, system reliability, and fleet availability as the trains continue to be used in regional services. Most of the maintenance work will be carried out at the Raus depot in Helsingborg, strengthening EuroMaint’s presence in southern Sweden.

EuroMaint has also secured an extension of a multi-year contract with Green Cargo, the Swedish rail freight operator, for the maintenance of Rc/Rd locomotives.

The Rc/Rd fleet is the core of the largest fleet of locomotives in operation in Sweden, according to CAF. The agreement includes both locomotive maintenance work and the supply of key components.

EuroMaint will use its national network of maintenance depots, from Luleå to Malmö, to support fleet availability, operational flexibility, and cost optimization throughout the rolling stock’s lifecycle.

In Norway, EuroMaint has strengthened its presence through a contract with Bane NOR, the Norwegian railway infrastructure manager, for the maintenance of vehicles used for work and interventions on the railway infrastructure.

The agreement has a minimum duration of 4 years and aims to ensure the safe and reliable operation of assets essential for the maintenance and modernization of Norway’s railway infrastructure.

The Scandinavian region is considered a strategic market for CAF, a Spanish group specializing in the production of rolling stock and railway solutions.

In recent years, the company has carried out several projects in the region, including the supply of trains for the high-speed line between Oslo and the city’s airport, trains for the Helsinki metro, and trams for cities such as Stockholm, Oslo, and Lund.

CAF also has ongoing contracts to supply new fleets of regional trains for the Swedish operators Transitio AB and SJ AB, as well as to modernize the signaling system of the Helsinki metro network with CBTC, a communications-based train control technology.

EuroMaint has over 1,000 employees and provides maintenance services for some of the major rail fleets in the Nordic region, along with supplying rail components to various operators.
