The province of British Columbia has awarded a CA$74.2 million contract to a B.C.-based joint venture between Norland Ltd. and Kingston Construction Ltd. for the replacement of a

rail overpass in the Fraser Valley. Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed in 2029.

The new structure, which will replace the existing rail-overpass structure between 216th Street and 264th Street near Langley, is part of the

Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program

. The new overpass will improve highway clearance and allow for Highway 1 to be widened and make room for new high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes in each direction.

The location has been the site of repeated overpass crashes; the new overpass will have an increased height clearance for commercial vehicles.

The replacement of the overpass is part of the planned Phase 2 of the corridor improvement project; Phase 2 is funded through CA$383 million from the province and CA$98 million from the government of Canada through the New Building Canada Fund.
