railwayOn 7th May 2025, Maryland completed the laying of the final track section for the future Purple Line. This marked the beginning of the vehicle and system integration testing phase for this light rail transit (LRT) project, carried out by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDoT) and its affiliated agency, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA). According to state officials, the 26.1 km LRT line featuring 21 stations and running from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County is now nearly 90% complete. In total, 58,857 m of track have been laid. Construction work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, and remaining tasks include the construction of station structures, landscaping, and the installation of signalling systems for both train operations and road transport. Revenue service is scheduled to begin in late 2027.
